KORBA: Under the purview of its Community Development Programme–‘Vedanta Sakhi Project’ BALCO , has gifted goats to two self-help groups in Mainpat in District Sarguja. Each group has been gifted 11 goats at an investment of Rs. 1,55,000. Self-help groups borne 25 % of the investment.
The project implementation agency, namely ‘Aroha Foundation’ has shared that Balco who is supporting the project has gifted goats of the following breeds: Sujaat, Totapari, Sirohi’ and Ajmeri to each group. Balco has also provided for the insurance of the goats . This has helped each group a further support of Rs 16,500.
In the event of the expected reproduction, each group will make an annual income of Approx. Rs 2,40,000.This project has benefitted ‘Ganpati’ Self-Help Group from Barima and and ‘Bhawna’ Self-Help Group from Narmadapur.
The goat distribution programme was held in the presence of Ram Bali, and Hariom Yadav, both local representatives of the area. On behalf of Balco Manoj Modi, AGM- Manipat Bauxite Mines and M. L. Mohanta, Manager, Manipat Bauxite Mines were present. Bishu Kumar, Associate Manager, Community Development, Balco and volunteers from Aroha Foundation were also present.
The local residents and representatives have appreciated Balco’s initiative. Modi shared that with Balco’s support, the local women will be able to get a permanent livelihood. He also expressed his hope that the needy women from the Self-Help Groups would be able to financially support their families by joining the goat rearing business.
