New-age undergraduate Programmes introduced in academic association with IndiaCSR® to prepare future-ready professionals in CSR, ESG, and sustainability.

BHILAI (Chhattisgarh): In a significant step toward strengthening India’s responsible business and sustainability ecosystem, Rungta International Skills University (RISU), Bhilai, has rolled out B.Sc. CSR & Sustainability and B.Voc. CSR & Sustainability in association with IndiaCSR®. The courses will be offered in the Bhilai campus in Chhattisgarh.

The programmes were launched at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi, on March 24, 2026, by Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Father of Indian CSR & Sustainability; Dr. Ashok Gulati, Padma Shri, Distinguished Agricultural Economist, and Professor at ICRIER; Nalin Mehta, Managing Editor of Moneycontrol and Chief AI Officer – Editorial Operations, Network18; Dr. Jawahar Surisetti, Vice-Chancellor of Rungta International Skills University, Bhilai; Sudhakar Singh, Member of Parliament from Buxar, Bihar; Rusen Kumar, Founder and CEO of IndiaCSR®; Satish Jha, entrepreneur, former journalist, and social technologist; and Sita Ram Gupta, social sector veteran.

Rising Sector Demand

India’s pioneering undergraduate programme in CSR and sustainability has been introduced at a time when India’s CSR and sustainability landscape is expanding rapidly, driven by regulatory requirements, ESG reporting expectations, and increasing focus on responsible business practices. The university has positioned the courses to address the growing need for trained professionals who understand corporate responsibility, governance, impact assessment, sustainability reporting, and development practice.

Programme Structure

The B.Sc. CSR & Sustainability is structured as a three-year, six-semester undergraduate programme with regular, field-integrated and internship-based learning. The B.Voc. CSR & Sustainability is designed with a professional orientation, including a pathway for industry professionals. Both programmes are being offered under the School of Sustainable Development at RISU.

Curriculum and Coverage

The curriculum includes areas such as CSR law and compliance under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, CSR rules and amendments, Schedule VII, ESG and sustainability frameworks, BRSR, GRI standards, sustainability reporting, carbon accounting basics, project design, impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, social audit, and sectoral applications in education, healthcare, nutrition, rural development, climate, and renewable energy.

Learning Meets Practice

According to the programme structure, the academic model combines classroom learning with field immersion, internships, live projects, sustainability reporting workshops, guest lectures, and applied research. The university says this industry-linked approach is intended to help students connect theory with practice across corporate, development, consulting, and policy ecosystems.

Evolving National Context

The programmes also reflect the wider growth of CSR and ESG in India. With mandatory CSR spending under the Companies Act, 2013, and rising ESG reporting expectations, organisations are increasingly looking for professionals who can work in compliance, reporting, impact evaluation, and sustainability management. The programme highlights this shift and positions itself within that broader national and institutional context.

Career Pathways Ahead

RISU has also outlined career pathways for graduates in roles such as CSR Executive, ESG Analyst, Sustainability Officer, Impact Assessment Consultant, CSR Compliance Officer, NGO Programme Manager, Sustainability Reporting Associate, and Social Audit Professional. The courses are also intended to support higher studies in areas such as MBA in CSR or Sustainability Management, Public Policy, Environmental Management, and Development Studies.

Building CSR and Sustainability Leaders

“Today’s evolving business environment demands professionals who can align law, impact, ethics, and sustainability with responsible leadership. Through these programmes, the university is reinforcing its commitment to industry-integrated, future-facing education aligned with NEP 2020 and contemporary development priorities,” said Dr. Jawahar Surisetti, Vice-Chancellor, Rungta International Skills University Bhilai.

Future-Ready CSR Education

“CSR and sustainability education must go beyond theory. Our aim is to prepare a new generation of professionals who understand law, impact, ethics, and development, and who can lead with responsibility in a rapidly changing world,” said Rusen Kumar, Founder and CEO of IndiaCSR®, and Course Director of the B.Sc. CSR & Sustainability and B.Voc. CSR & Sustainability programmes.

Admissions and Fees

The programmes are open to students from Science, Commerce, and Arts backgrounds. Eligibility includes 10+2 or equivalent qualification from a recognised board, with admissions structured through application, academic review, and confirmation after selection. For the 2026–27 academic year, the annual tuition fee listed for students is Rs. 80,000, while the corporate-sponsored student fee is Rs. 96,000, excluding examination and hostel charges.

With this launch, Rungta International Skills University and India CSR aim to strengthen academic engagement in CSR, ESG, and sustainability, while contributing to the development of a new generation of professionals prepared for emerging responsibilities in business, governance, and social development.
