ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, received the prestigious ‘Rotary CSR Award 2021’ for its support to communities and the environment.
AM/NS India was recognised by the renowned Rotary Foundation for the reach and societal impact of its environmental initiatives, including the promotion of renewable energy through installation of solar streetlights, distribution of solar-powered lamps and drinking water pumps to several communities in rural India.
AM/NS India was also commended for its work to sensitise communities on the importance of adopting sustainable lifestyle practices by organising local events around significant environmental movements, such as Earth Day and International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The company’s energy efficiency initiatives have impacted more than 10,000 families in several states including Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head – CSR, AM/NS INDIA, who received the award on behalf of the company said, “For AM/NS India to be recognised for the efforts to support communities is a source of great pride and encouragement. We will continue to expand our projects across sustainability, healthcare, and education and skills development, all of which impact and improve the lives of people across the country.”
Digital skills training to more than 800 young people
AM/NS India also continues to make progress on its education and skills development initiatives. The company recently signed two agreements, one with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to provide digital skills training to more than 800 young people across India, and another with Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Barbil, Odisha for a technical skills programme to train students seeking opportunities in the mining and steel industries.
The Rotary Foundation awards ceremony, held recently in Gurgaon, was attended by over 100 delegates, invitees and guests, spanning business, government, academia and non-government institutions. Other companies to receive awards included Ambuja Cement, Bharti Foundation, ICICI, Larsen & Toubro, Tech Mahindra and Vodafone-Idea.
