Amitabh Bachchan, Tata, Mahindra, Birla to promote social transformation mission in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan, Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, Rajashree Birla, Rajkumar Dhoot, Sanjiv Mehta, SBI CMD Arundhati Bhattacharya and Amitabh Bachchan would promote social transformation mission of Maharashtra Govt through CSR. Various Corporate leaders  attended a meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on August 25, 2016.

Maharashtra government has planed to transform 1000 villages into model villages via corporate fund. Actual work would start in at least 100 villages from October 2.

The state government will join hands with top philanthropists and corporate giants to transform 1000 villages into model villages while Amitabh Bachchan would work for promotion of villages’ social transformation mission.

Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister for education Vinod Tawde, Minister for Health Deepak Sawant, Minister for water conservation Ram Shinde, Minister for labour Sambhaji Nilangekar-Patil were also present.

Scientists Dr Anil Kakodkar and Vijay Bhatkar were also invited for the meeting. The companies will undertake work under this mission through their Corporate social responsibility funds.

Pointing out that state government as well as corporate companies are working towards transforming villages through their different initiatives and through different schemes, CM Fadnavis said that this mission would bring together the government and corporates in transforming villages. Fadnavis also launched the social accountability cell for this mission along with its website www.sahabhag.maharashtra.gov.in

Fadnavis said that people’s participation results in making any scheme successful and as was evident during the Jalyukta Shivar scheme and the Gram Sabha of the village would be involved in this mission for sustainable development of villages. It will include implementing water conservation, agriculture and skill development related programs through this mission to make the villages model.

Rajashree Birla told the meeting that Birla Trust would take the responsibility of transforming 300 villages through this mission. Amitabh Bachchan said that this he was already associated with many schemes of the government and this mission was wonderful, and that he would cooperate in every possible way for the success of this mission which can bring about transformation.

A mechanism of governing council is created for the mission which will be headed by the Chief Minister. The Corporate companies will select 50% of the villages for this mission while 25% would be from tribal areas. The 50% villages which will be selected by the government are essentially poor in the human development index. It will provide total water security to the village by making it drought free and develop human resources through skill development programs. Water sources, forest and land in the village will be conserved and improved through various initiatives under this mission.
