Mumbai (India CSR): Alstom Transport India Limited, a leading multinational sustainable mobility provider, has obtained certification of compliance with the ISO 26000 standard, related to integrating sustainable development into the company’s strategy.

The certification has been provided after the certifying company, AFNOR, carried out extensive audits in Alstom’s key facilities in Bengaluru and Sricity to establish compliance with the global standards.

Aiming to provide an international framework of behaviour for all types of organizations, ISO 26000 is the only international standard that aims to provide guidance to organizations on social responsibility. This standard brings together a set of guidelines that assist in unifying the sustainable development criteria and encouraging companies to develop initiatives that go beyond legal compliance, promoting and enhancing the transparency of organizations. Several audits were executed across financial, social, and environmental pillars, to study and review Alstom’s contribution and compliance to sustainable development in India.

Commenting on this certification, Alain SPOHR, Managing Director, India & South Asia, Alstom said, “This certification reiterates Alstom commitment to being a responsible player in India, through consistent efforts towards decarbonization of mobility, promoting sustainable development, as well as providing job opportunities to the talent pool in the country. I would like to congratulate all the teams on this achievement.”

“We are equally focused towards supporting socio-economic development, enhancing community relationships while encouraging citizenship and engagement among Alstom employees. Aligned with Alstom in Motion 2025 strategy, obtaining this certification proves that we are in the path to achieving our objective of becoming more sustainable in our business practices and operations.” Alain said.

This certification recognises various principles of social responsibility displayed by organizations in aspects such as company governance, respect for human rights, labour practices, environment, fair operating practices, treatment of consumers, and participation in community development, among others.

The company has a strong footprint in the country with 6 industrial sites and 2 engineering centers that cater to domestic as well as for several international projects. Alstom currently is a team of about 10,000 employees and aims to expand its talent pool by 15% in 2022.
