Mumbai: Allcargo Logistics planted over 1 lakh trees with 2300 farmers in Jawahar, Mokada and Karjat in Maharashtra as a part of Maitree programme under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Maitree was launched in 2014 by Avashya Foundation, the CSR arm of Allcargo Logistics, which aims to provide sustainable sources of livelihood to the tribal communities and people from economically weaker backward through plantation of fruit bearing trees.
The programme ensures a broader outreach to a large number of families from under-developed & tribal regions and improves their socio-economic condition.
“Maitree 2019 aims to conserve nature as well as extend our support to the farmer communities”, Nilratan Shende, DGM, CSR, Allcargo Logistics Ltd said.
“Each year, we identify new regions and farmers who can reap the benefits of Maitree and have received encouraging support this year from farmers as well as forest officials for the success of Maitree,” he further added.
This project meets the goals of environment sustainability as well as community empowerment.
Over 10,000 farmers have been benefited and over 6 lakh fruit bearing trees have been planted under Maitree since 2014.
Maitree helps in increasing green cover, reducing carbon impact, providing income generation options and mitigating rural migration.
