Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, is taking a step towards inclusivity by introducing its in-flight safety manual in Braille for passengers with visual impairments.
New Delhi: On January 4th, 2023, Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, launched its in-flight safety manual in Braille in English and Hindi to celebrate World Braille Day. The manual, which is available upon request to passengers with visual impairments, includes detailed instructions on seatbelt operation, the location of emergency exits and life jackets, tactile diagrams to help orient passengers to the aircraft and its positions, and other essential safety information.
Akasa Air has partnered with The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged to develop the manual as part of the airline’s commitment to social inclusion and providing a warm and consistent experience for all customers.
The manual was developed with the guidance of Dr. Sam Taraporevala, Executive Director of XRCVC, who noted that it is an example of an airline taking a step towards inclusivity.
Akasa Air aims to be socially responsible and has ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX planes, which are powered by fuel-efficient engines and are designed to reduce fuel use and carbon emissions.
Ensuring that all of our passengers, regardless of ability, have access to important safety information is a top priority for us at Akasa Air,” said Belson Coutinho, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer of Akasa Air. “We are proud to be able to offer a Braille in-flight safety manual and to partner with The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged to make travel more inclusive for all.
