Focused on long-term objectives, Acronis strengthens its commitment to ESG efforts and support for communities
Acronis, a global leader in cybersecurity and data protection, has released its 2024 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, showcasing a year of remarkable progress in sustainability, cybersecurity innovation, and social responsibility. The report underscores Acronis’ dedication to driving environmental efficiency, enhancing cybersecurity for its partners and customers, and making a tangible difference in communities worldwide. As an ESG-responsible organization, Acronis continues to prioritize sustainable growth while delivering cutting-edge solutions to protect data and systems in an increasingly digital world.
The 2024 ESG Report outlines Acronis’ multifaceted approach to achieving its long-term objectives, with key initiatives spanning environmental stewardship, social impact, and robust governance. From reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to expanding educational programs and strengthening cybersecurity frameworks, Acronis has demonstrated its commitment to creating a better, more secure, and sustainable future.
Environmental Leadership: A Greener Footprint
In 2024, Acronis took significant steps to minimize its environmental impact. The company updated and reviewed its GHG inventory, providing a clearer picture of its emissions profile. Additionally, Acronis conducted a comprehensive assessment of the GHG footprint associated with the use of its solutions, ensuring that its products contribute to sustainability goals. A data center risk assessment was also performed to evaluate and mitigate environmental risks tied to its global operations.
Beyond internal efforts, Acronis organized 23 environmental events, mobilizing employees and volunteers to collect over 2,700 kg of waste and contribute more than 630 volunteer hours. These initiatives reflect Acronis’ proactive stance on environmental responsibility and its commitment to fostering a cleaner planet.
Social Impact: Empowering Communities and Employees
Acronis’ social initiatives in 2024 were equally impressive, with a strong focus on employee engagement, education, and diversity. The company launched the “Voice of Employees” program, a company-wide effort to strengthen workplace culture and ensure that its workforce feels heard and valued. This initiative complemented the expansion of the Acronis Cyber Foundation Program Ambassadors campaign, which saw over 500 employees participate in 76 projects, logging nearly 3,000 volunteer hours.
Recognizing the importance of gender diversity in the tech industry, Acronis hosted 34 #CyberWomen meetups across 10 countries, engaging 700 participants. The company also continued its Women in Tech (WIT) Mentorship program, celebrating 36 graduates who are now better equipped to thrive in the cybersecurity field.
Education remained a cornerstone of Acronis’ social impact strategy. Through the Acronis Cyber Foundation Program, the company supported the construction of six schools and IT classrooms, providing students with access to modern learning environments. Additionally, Acronis introduced IT skills programs in Germany and Bulgaria, empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to succeed in a digital economy.
Governance and Cybersecurity: Building Trust and Resilience
On the governance front, Acronis enhanced its supplier review processes and bolstered its business continuity programs to ensure operational resilience. The company also reinforced its cybersecurity offerings, enforcing two-factor authentication (2FA) for partner tenants to safeguard sensitive data. Acronis expanded its ISO security certifications and launched the Acronis Threat Research Unit (TRU), a dedicated team focused on identifying and mitigating emerging cyber threats.
To ensure that its workforce remains vigilant, Acronis conducted company-wide information security training, equipping employees with the knowledge to combat evolving risks. These efforts underscore Acronis’ role as a trusted leader in cybersecurity, protecting over 750,000 business customers and 20,000 service providers worldwide.
In 2024, the Acronis TRU uncovered 195 million threats and blocked 61 million malicious emails, demonstrating the company’s proactive approach to safeguarding its ecosystem. By integrating AI-powered anti-malware, backup, disaster recovery, and extended detection and response (XDR) into a single platform, Acronis simplifies security management, reduces complexity, and enhances scalability for managed service providers (MSPs).
Sustainability in Action: Eco-Friendly Data Centers
Acronis’ global network of over 50 Cyber Cloud data centers stands as a testament to its commitment to sustainability. More than half of these facilities adhere to eco-friendly practices, including power efficiency, ISO certifications, e-waste management, and climate risk mitigation. Many participate in the iMasons Climate Accord, a collective effort to decarbonize the digital infrastructure industry.
Innovative cooling methods, such as water and air cooling with water-based refrigerants, are employed across these data centers, reducing energy consumption. Additionally, a third of Acronis’ data center providers have adopted technologies that minimize the use of harmful refrigerants, further aligning with the company’s environmental goals.
Alignment with U.N. Sustainable Development Goals
Acronis’ 2024 ESG efforts are closely aligned with seven key U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), including reducing inequalities, promoting quality education, fostering gender equality, and supporting industry innovation and infrastructure. By integrating these global priorities into its operations, Acronis ensures that its growth benefits both its business and the broader world.
Leadership Perspective
“In 2024, Acronis made significant strides in enhancing our ESG efforts, from improving the data quality used for calculating greenhouse gas emissions to initiating projects aimed at reducing our carbon footprint,” said Alona Geckler, Chief of Staff and SVP of Business Operations at Acronis. “As we look ahead, we are committed to building on these efforts, continuously improving our ESG practices, and working closely with our partners to create a more sustainable future. We will remain focused on driving positive change through responsible operations and ensuring that our sustainability goals align with the needs of both our business and the planet.”
A Unified Approach to Cyber Protection
Acronis’ natively integrated approach to cyber protection sets it apart in the industry. By combining multiple tools into a single solution, the company empowers MSPs to protect more customers efficiently while minimizing environmental impact. This streamlined approach not only enhances security but also reduces the resource demands associated with managing disparate systems.
As Acronis looks to the future, its 2024 ESG Report serves as a blueprint for continued progress. By balancing innovation, sustainability, and social good, Acronis is poised to remain a leader in cybersecurity while making a lasting impact on the world.
