A R Rahman, the celebrated music director, has taken legal action against the Annual Conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASICON) by issuing a notice demanding Rs 10 crore as compensation for alleged defamation. Rahman contends that his reputation has been tarnished by ASICON’s claims
Legal Notice Issued
In a significant development, A R Rahman has formally demanded Rs 10 crore in compensation from ASICON. This demand comes in response to ASICON’s previous legal notice, which accused Rahman of failing to perform at their 78th annual conference in 2018 and not returning the advance payment of Rs 29.5 lakh.
No Contractual Obligation
Rahman, through his legal representative, advocate Narmadha Sampath, has strongly refuted these allegations. He asserts that he never entered into any contractual agreement with ASICON, making it clear that there were no binding obligations for his performance at the conference. According to Rahman, ASICON’s accusations are driven by a desire for cheap publicity at the expense of his impeccable reputation.
Money Paid to a Third Party
One crucial point raised by Rahman in his four-page reply is that the advance payment of Rs 29.5 lakh was never directly paid to him. Instead, the funds were directed to a third party, Senthilvelan, and a group of associated companies. This underscores the absence of any financial transaction between Rahman and ASICON.
Media Attention and Harassment Allegations
Rahman’s legal representative, Narmadha Sampath, has gone further to accuse ASICON of leveraging Rahman’s fame to gain media attention and harass him. The legal team has called upon ASICON to publicly apologize for their baseless allegations and compensate Rahman with a substantial sum of Rs 10 crore as damages within a 15-day timeframe.
In this ongoing legal battle, A R Rahman is determined to protect his reputation as one of India’s most prominent music directors. The outcome of this dispute will undoubtedly have a significant impact on his career and legacy in the music industry.
