Amway India, one of the country’s leading FMCG direct selling companies, commemorated Children’s Day for the 12th consecutive year. The annual celebrations were hosted virtually across India with its 12 NGO partners as part of Amway India’s CSR program- Project Sunrise.

Through this program, Amway supports the overall well-being of underprivileged children by providing them access to education, health and hygiene. Furthermore, Amway through its ‘Power of 5 Campaign’ is relentlessly working towards the cause of malnourishment in the children under the age of 5 years. The campaign focusses on bringing in the much-needed awareness and behavioural shift in mothers, caregivers and communities at large.

Embracing the new normal this year, Amway conducted the celebrations virtually with the aim to bring children together while maintaining social distancing. From workshops on Indian painting and cultural performances to virtual salad dressing and debate competitions along with story-telling sessions, Amway India organised several interactive activities that were geared towards empowering and encouraging the young ones.

In Delhi, Amway, in association with Deepalaya, encouraged and engaged the children to virtually participate in activities like diya painting, pot painting, thumb painting, clay activity and have a fun filled memorable Children’s Day. The event concluded with exciting gifts for all the participants.

Gursharan Cheema, Senior Vice President, North & South Amway India, said, “The most precious thing in this world is a smile on the face of a child and in light of this thought Amway India celebrates Children’s Day each year along with its NGO partners. In these unprecedented times, it is important to take a moment and appreciate the resilience shown by the young ones as they face a constantly evolving world. At Amway, our vision is to help people live better, healthier lives. Through multiple initiatives under Project Sunrise, we have significantly enriched the lives of underprivileged children across India by helping them in their holistic development. It was heartening to see such an enthusiastic participation and creativity showcased by all the children at the virtual event. We are proud to collaborate with our NGO partners and extend our support for the welfare of the children.”

Jaswant Kaur, Executive Director, Deepalaya, Delhi, said, “Our aim was to give the children some time off and encourage them to interact with peers and teachers. Such activities help build the confidence in the children and keep them engaged, which, we believe, is the need of the hour. We have received continued support from Amway India for our children over the years. We wholeheartedly thank Amway for organizing a fun filled day that the children thoroughly enjoyed.”

Amway had introduced Project Sunrise in 2008 with a vision to help and empower underprivileged children in areas of education, health and hygiene. Under this project, the company currently works with more than three NGO partners across the country.

Amway India’s CSR initiatives are based on the belief that social responsibility is much more than the incurrence of a cost or a resource or a charitable/ philanthropic act of social benefit. It is an opportunity to bring in social innovation and change. This belief is articulated in Amway’s vision of helping people live better lives. When it comes to commitment to corporate citizenship, Amway India makes a serious and concentrated effort to reach out and help people improve their lives.

Amway India supports a comprehensive CSR programme covering a gamut of initiatives including a water conservation project to improve the ground water level in 7 villages in the Dindigul district located around the manufacturing plant. Amway supports a village health program targeted at 26 villages in the Dindigul district, to provide quality healthcare to the underprivileged. The treatment includes general health check-up, select pathological tests and medicines at zero cost to the beneficiaries. In a span of over 20 months over 240 free health camps have been organised benefitting more than 50,000 people from local communities.

Amway India set up a telemedicine centre in the Dindigul district to ensure a consistent healthcare support to the villagers. This program has eliminated distance barriers and improved access to medical services in distant rural communities. The centre aims at providing free medical treatment to over 7,000 patients in a year.

Last year Amway India launched a Community Health & Entrepreneurship Program in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to offer livelihood training in Entrepreneurship skills and business fundamentals with the objective to promote self-employment among women and to create awareness on affordable health and hygiene practices.

Recently it has launched the community-based nutrition education program to improve the nutritional status among children (below 5 years) in the select slum areas of West Delhi.  The program focuses on prevention, early detection and improved access to care in line with the National Nutrition Mission, Govt. of India.

As a key focus area, Amway has taken various initiatives to support the cause of visually impaired. Amway also supports underprivileged children in education, health and hygiene under a project titled ‘Sunrise’. Under this project, Amway currently supports more than 15 NGOs across the country.
