Nestlé India and S M Sehgal Foundation inaugurated a Digital Literacy and Life Skills Education Centre cum Library in Government Primary School village Rohira under partnership project Vriddhi in Nuh district, Haryana, on November 11, 2020.
Strengthening its commitment towards building a healthier society and positively impacting the lives of people in marginalised communities, Nestlé India, in collaboration with S M Sehgal Foundation, launched Project Vriddhi, an initiative towards village adoption in April 2019. The three-year project is aimed at improving the livelihoods of 1,500 people in the village of Rohira for bringing a positive change in the lives of the locals. The project adopts an integrated approach focusing on various aspects of rural well-being. This includes improving delivery of public services related to health, education and sanitation, water conservation, and improving farm livelihoods.
School transformation in Rohira School, completed in October 2019, under the project includes a rainwater harvesting system, along with plantation, swings, educational wall paintings, sanitary facilities, and midday meal kitchen to provide all the basic necessities for schoolchildren that lead to a stimulating learning environment.
The inauguration event in village Rohira was facilitated by Program Lead, Good Rural Governance, Sehgal Foundation, Ms. Debika Goswami, together with the school authorities. The school interventions are expected to lead to increased curiosity and confidence in the students as the students will get increased access to new information and knowledge.
The school headmaster, Roop Chand, did the ribbon cutting and inaugurated the Digital Literacy and Life Skills Education Centre cum Library by giving a virtual tour to the delegates connected to the event online. Mr. Sanjay Khajuria, Director, Corporate Affairs, and Shveta Arora, Senior Manager CSR, CSV & NHW from Nestlé India along with Jay Sehgal, Executive Vice President and Anjali Makhija, Chief Operating Officer from S M Sehgal Foundation, joined the inauguration event virtually and addressed the community. Anjali welcomed the guests and thanked people of village Rohira for the support and cooperation extended for the work done.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Khajuria, shared his vision for a clean village with improved access to clean drinking water for communities and adoption of water-saving irrigation practices, enhanced farm productivity and a healthy learning environment through improved hygiene and sanitation practices. He also interacted with the students who will be undertaking the digital literacy and life skills education training at the school. Jay Sehgal talked about sustainability of interventions and appealed to the villagers to maintain hygiene and cleanliness. School teachers and village representatives spoke about the benefits of interventions done so far.
Village Sarpanch, Rekha Devi, present at the occasion thanked the organizations for taking up development interventions in the village. Ex-Sarpanch, Umar Mohammad, and other village members were also present. Implementation team from Sehgal Foundation Vikas Jha, Anjali Godyal, Rashi Gupta, Kuldeep, Sharafat, Shaheena Khatoon, Sanjay, and Nizam also took part in the village event.
