Adani Group employees, through their Employee Volunteering Programme (EVP), have sponsored the education of all 802 children studying in Mundra’s Vallabh Vidyalaya for the upcoming academic year. Employees have contributed Rs.16 lakhs to the school authorities on Labour Day, May 1.
These children belong to families of migrant labourers working in various industries in and around Mundra, Gujarat. With the ongoing coronavirus crisis, these children, in addition to bearing the disadvantage of unfamiliarity with local language and culture inhibiting participation in school, are battling resource constraints at home also.
Vallabh Vidyalaya is a Hindi medium school, and children from migrant families who are not adapted to the local language, find this school as a more suitable option for continuing their studies.
With the ongoing countrywide lockdown and a large number of workers out of jobs, even the meagre fees of the school are hard to match, which impacted these children’s chances to continue with their schooling.
Adani Group realized the issue caused migrant labour workers in and around their port in Mundra in the previous academic year. A handful of them indicated to the management the language barriers being faced by their children in local schools and the financial constraints to enrol them in a Hindi-Medium school.
Identifying this, the Group through its employee volunteering program sponsored 704 children for an entire year of schooling in 2019. They continued the sponsorship for this year as well, funding the education of all 802 students enrolled in the school.
Students and parents expressed their joy upon receiving the amount and said that it is indeed a sigh of relief, especially at this hour, that Adani employees have come forward full-heartedly.
The parents were especially touched by the gesture because of the tough times that they are facing and through this combined effort their children can continue schooling.
They thanked representatives of the management and employees who have donated to the fund, adding that their gratitude will go a long way in helping their children learn and grow.
Adani Group is deeply involved in the all-round social and economic development of the areas in and around Mundra. Adani Foundation has initiated a UTTHAN program in Government schools. The programs converge the four pillars of education seamlessly: Students, Teachers, Guardians and Infrastructure.
The structured approach of UTTHAN will influence Vallabh Vidyalaya too in library enrichment, the introduction of smart classes etc. Adani EVP is context-driven and employees have taken part in teaching, improving Aanganwadis, giving impetus to national Swachhata Mission and blood donation. The journey continues.
