Hawaii, USA: “Walmart has recently launched a global Women Empowerment 360 initiative to make a difference in life of million women all around the Globe. We have committed that by 2016:

In the U.S., we will source $20 billion from women-owned businesses. Globally, we will double our sourcing from women-owned businesses in every market.

New programs will empower 60,000 women on farms and in factories through training, market access and career opportunities.

Already successful retail training programs will be scaled to help 400,000 women in the US and internationally gain the skills they need for employment and a career”.

“80% of the 200 million people who shop at a Walmart globally every week are women. Since a high percentage of our customers are women, our focus on empowering women is not just the right thing to do but also makes sound business sense.” only makes sense that we have a woman leading the teams making decisions of assortment, store layout, managing the store, etc

“We continue empower women at Walmart to lead our business. Now we have more than 1.2 million women associates globally.”

“We are making strong progress in Asia internally:

1 in 3 leaders in Walmart Home offices across Asia are women
60% of Walmart associates in Asia are women
44% of Walmart China store Managers are women
22% of Japan’s senior leaders (at SVP level) are women”

“In 2009 we set up a President’s Global Council of Women leaders who offer guidance to our women associates across the world and is delivering effectively against their goals”

“In Japan we have just launched a program in partnership with Mercy Corps to help 500 women along the tsunami affected coast of Japan to restart their businesses to harvest seaweed and are exploring how we can make those products available in Walmart stores”

“Walmart procures directly from over 800,000 farmers in China. 50% of Direct Farm program participants are female. Walmart China will offer training to 1 million farmers by 2015, of which we expect half will be women”

“Walmart is supporting women through our partnership with CARE organization in China and India. We have committed $3 million in China to help women develop their capacity to rise out of poverty, support their families, and improve their communities and in India we have helped 750 women cashew farmers to increase their yield and have sold their produce in Walmart.”

“In October 2010, Walmart China and the China Women’s Development Foundation signed an MOU that included a WalmaIndia CSRrt RMB 1 million donation to be used as seed funding for the “Walmart Women’s Development Fund.” The fund will finance the “Revolving Fund on Poverty Alleviation Program for Mothers” led by the China Women’s Development Foundation.”

“Walmart has been recognized for progress in diversity being named in Top Ten companies  in “50 Out Front Best Places to Work” by Diversity Magazine; Top 20 Companies for Leadership by Business Week; Best Employer in China by the International Public Management Association for Human Resources and others. Walmart is also taking part Vital Voices Global Partnership program organized by FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women.”
