There is a substantial decline in TFR, MMR & IMR can be seen which shows India’s Achievements since ICPD 1994. As per the SRS Data, Total Fertility Rate (TFR) was 3.5 in 1994 which declined to 2.2 as per SRS-2017 data. Not just this, MMR and IMR havealso come down at 471 in 1995 (MMIEG-95) to 130 (SRS 14-16) and 80 (UGIGME-94) to 33 (SRS-17), respectively.
Out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), HLFPPT through its presence at grass root level in 25 States and 3 UTs are working extensively to help the SDG Goal No-3 which is- “Good Health and Well-Being”. HLFPPT core area of work is Reproductive Health, Maternal & Child Health, Adolescent Health, Family Planning, HIV/Aids, Elderly Care and Support with a focus on the poor and marginalised rural and urban population.
If we see the progress after 25 years of ICPD, World’s Population recorded in 1994 was 942 Million, which increased at 1368 Million in 2019 (UNFPA State of World Population-19). On other hand, Life Expectancy has increased from 60 in 1994 to 69 in 2019. It is worth saying that, just due to the effort made by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, ANC coverage has also increased from 26.9 (NFHS-I, 1990-91) to 51 (NFHS-IV, 15-16).
The scenario of India’s Demography is also changing. With India’s present population at around 1.3 billion, the ‘Population Momentum’ is projected to go high at 1.7 billion, after which the momentum is expected to decline. The annual Population growth rate has also witnessed the steepest decline at 4 % during 2001-2011, which specifies the choice of Family is shifted from Joint to Nuclear. At present, India is entering the final stage of demographic transition and nearing the replacement level of fertility in light of the rapid changing of the demographic scenario.
At present, with over 60 active projects, HLFPPT is leading the market of Healthcare service delivery with a strong foothold in the field of Health. HLFPPT is managing and operationalizing over 174 Mobile Medical Units roaming across the nation to deliver the doorstep medical services to the underserved communities.
In order to adhere with the appeal made by Union Minister at the National Forum to mark the 25th Anniversary of ICPD to dedicate a month every year for the social cause of Family Planning and Population Control related activity, HLFPPT is working to impart the same through its various development projects.
