BANGALORE: In an endeavor to create a more sustainability society, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) conducted its fourth activity under ‘ICARE’, an employee voluntary initiative to drive eco awareness amongst school children in Bangalore city.
Toyota and its employees joined forces to conceptualize various sustainable projects and other environmental activities including revamping the school façade to tree plantation drive at Government Higher Primary school, Vajjarahalli, Bangalore.
The initiative was undertaken with the objective to improve the facilities of the Government School in an eco-friendly way, while spreading environmental consciousness to children and staff of the school. Close to 250 volunteers enthusiastically associated with 200 school children in eco painting of school building, constructing the playground using recycled materials, developing the charts on eco-education, developing kitchen garden for the school and in renovating the entire school premises to eco-friendly school.
Staying true to TKM’s key social values of sustained community development and creating sustainability in every eco activity they do, the drive actively involved its employees aimed to enhance the understanding on the increasing environmental challenges amongst young minds and to take necessary steps to counter it as a continued eco-initiative. Children showed much enthusiasm in beautifying their school and premises in an eco-friendly manner with the volunteers.
The outcome of the initiative was – improved school infrastructure, sustainable play area of 1000 sq ft for kids to help build better cognitive and social skills, sensitized kids and greater environmental consciousness and better hygiene levels in the school.
