GURGAON: Gurgaon district administration is planning to set up a CSR (corporate social responsibility) secretariat that will act as a project office for all related projects in the city.
According to a report, district administration will invite firms to form this secretariat, where volunteers can gather and act as coordinators for CSR projects underway in the city.
“There are many big firms who are contributing through CSR projects. We want to make the process smooth by building a secretariat,” said additional deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh.
District administration has been taking steps to ease the process of initiating CSR projects in Gurgaon. One of the first things they did was to make the process digital, removing the cumbersome processes and paperwork that often intimidated private players keen to make CSR investments.
There was even a dedicated CSR session at Happening Haryana, the global investors’ summit earlier this month, where MoUs on CSR initiatives worth Rs 140 crore were signed. Main projects under this included a Rs 100 crore investment by Maruti in education, water, sanitation and skill development.
Other investors include Renew Power, Jacquar, PowerGrid, Artemis and Sabic India. Many firms are already working in the city on various fronts such as infrastructure, cleanliness, sanitation, education, health, road safety and mobility.
Among other big initiatives is a database to optimise public transport routes, to be created by companies such as Snapdeal, Nagarro, Incedo, NTT Data, Fidelity, Authbridge.
Then there is the initiative to create and maintain cycle tracks all over the city, development of infrastructure in government schools and providing personnel for the safety of citizens at home and on the roads.
Praising the government plan, Ranjeet Singh, GM (CSR & sustainability), Maruti Suzuki, said, “If implemented, the plan will be of great help in cutting turnaround time for CSR projects, and motivate us to do more and better. The district administration is very responsive to CSR projects. After waiting for six months to sign an MoU, they advised us to execute it at the district level, which was accomplished within a week without us using a single sheet of paper.”
