Ratna Nidhi to distribute wheelchairs, callipers, crutches, Jaipur Foot and arm, 11000 sq feet high in inaccessible Ladakh on 25th June.

MUMBAI: This Mumbai based NGO is a pioneer in mobility camps in India. In recognition of its decades of work, Rajiv Mehta’s Ratna Nidhi received a grant from Google.org to develop 3D scanning software to scan residual limbs and print proper-fitting sockets for people in rural areas of India, in association with IIT Bombay.
Now, Rajiv Mehta is off 11000 sq feet above sea level, to Ladakh. “People living in terrorism inflicted areas are often the worst sufferers, when it comes to loss of limbs, hearing loss etc,” says Mehta. Mehta acknowledges the contribution of Rotary South Mumbai and Rotary Worli.
Sometimes these areas are also inaccessible to NGOs; who would like to help them. Which is why Ratna Nidhi’s camp at Leh Ladakh, 11000 sq feet above sea level is truly remarkable.
Asha Mehta, trustee Ratna Nidhi says, “ We are distributing prosthetic legs, callipers, wheelchairs and hearing aids to more than 500 people free of cost, at the
Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, at Leh Ladakh on 25th June. In April, we had conducted a free camp and taken measurements. We went back to our Mahalakshmi centre to manufacture the mobility equipments.”
The venerable Bhikku Sanghasena and the Indian army are helping with transporting the patients from remote regions.
Bhkku Sanghasena, a global figure of eminence, and the man single handedly responsible for transforming Ladakh into a haven of peace, said “ We speak of compassion, but Ratna Nidhi does compassion. Who will come to an inaccessible place like Ladakh to do a disability camp? I am very grateful to Ratna Nidhi.”
The disability camp will be presided over by Hon. Ramdas Athavale, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment , Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry, Dr. Kiran Bedi.
Since 2001, Mumbai-based Ratna Nidhi has provided nearly 2.3 lakh equipments to people with disabilities in India including terror affected regions.
The NGO has done the following camps in war and terrorism inflicted areas before as well.
“Our aim is to cover every single district in the country and aim to help as many people with disabilities as we can” adds Rajiv Mehta.
