DHENKANAL: GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) today launched computer learning centre at Township area as its part of CSR initiative to provide computer literacy course for aspirant youth in Mangalpur & Kamalanga Panchayat of Dhenkanal district, which will be helpful towards the Prime Minister’s Mission of “Digital India.”
GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, CSR arm of GMR Group, has collaborated with Delhi Duty Free Services Private Limited to offer aspirant youth the basic computer learning. The objective of the Centre is to educate the youth of periphery villages of GKEL through basic computer training.
The Centre was inaugurated by Prabir Kumar Majumdar, Deputy CEO-Thermal & Ramesh R Pai, Chief Operating Officer, GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited.
Speaking on the initiative, Majumdar said, “Information Technology now plays a pivotal role in advancing social good for emancipating the vast youth force from mediocrity and backwardness. Therefore, the basic computer learning is very inevitable for rural community.”
“The youths of local community should take maximum benefit out of the training. This effort aims at imparting effective computer education and learning experiences through innovative technologies,” he added.
Mr. Pai encouraged the local youth to learn computer education which will be helpful in day to day life. “We are extremely delighted to launch this computer education centre. GKEL will continue its effort to change the economic landscape of local community,” he said.
The Centre will provide three months basic computer course. In the first batch 15 girls from Manpur, Kamalanga, Achalkote and Maniabeda villages took admission on merit basis of marks secured in Class-10 examination.
GKEL intends to provide basic computer courses to all interested youths in Mangalpur & Kamalanga Panchayat and these students in turn will imbibe the ethos and the values that will be inculcated into them and will carry out into their profession in particular and in social life at large.
Among others, Arabinda Pani, Head-O&M, Sanatan Senapati, GM—Security & Fire, GKEL & Dillip Kumar Kar, Program Leader, GMRVF were present on the occasion.
