NEW DELHI: Day long workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility to be held at Convention Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067 on December 8, 2016.
Workshop will disseminate findings of the research project “Understanding Corporate Social Responsibility Expenditure in India: Effect of New Regulation Regarding Mandatory CSR” that is sponsored by SANDEE (South Asian Network of Development and Environmental Economics).
This workshop seeks to bring together academic scholars, business leaders and high-level government officials to discuss the current status of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts by firms in India, the regulatory and voluntary incentives for it and its effectiveness in promoting sustainable development in India. Many leading firms world-wide undertake CSR voluntarily as a mechanism to demonstrate good faith efforts to benefit society by reducing harmful environmental impacts beyond levels required by regulation and contributing to social and economic development outside the boundaries of their operations. India became the first country to pass a law in 2013 making it mandatory for large firms to undertake CSR expenditures.
The aim of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussing the effects of the new CSR regulation on firm behavior, the extent and types of CSR activities being undertaken by firms and the extent to which the CSR Act can lead to corporate contributions to the economic development agenda of India.
