NEW DELHI: PNB MetLife believes in a good corporate citizenship approach and is committed to the communities in which it operates. The CSR strategy for PNB MetLife has a dual approach:

  • Promotion of financial inclusion in India through MetLife Foundation
  • Launch of social initiatives with our partners around
  • education and development of underprivileged children
  • promotion of national sports like badminton
  • consumer awareness programmes around insurance

Key Focus Areas of PNB MetLife’s CSR Programme:

Education and development of children: PNB MetLife has two projects in Karnataka with CRY and Prajna Counselling Centre which impacted close to 7500 children across 140 villages in Mangalore and Raichur. The project with Prajna Counselling Centre focuses on promoting early childhood care and education through strengthening crèche centres in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts in the area. The Child Development Project with CRY and Sneha Jeevan Samasthe (SJS) addresses issues of child rights violation in Karnataka with a total reach out of 6,730 children across 55 villages and districts. PNB MetLife set up a project towards the education and development of children in J&K with JKASW (Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers) and CRY. The vision for the project is to provide access to quality, inclusive, equitable and participatory education in safe and protective environment for children & has impacted over 35,000 children.

Promotion of National Sports: PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship (JBC) supports the promotion of nationally recognized sport Badminton and provides career-building opportunities to young and budding talent. Through JBC, the company has provided scholarships to 24 talented underprivileged children and 18 national winners to train in reputed badminton academies in the country over last two years. PNB MetLife also extended support towards providing badminton coaching to children from CRY project areas and prepare them for JBC Season 2 tournament. In this one of a kind initiative, a total of 231 children from 12 CRY project areas were provided with 3 months of coaching and 66 shortlisted children participated in the tournament. For all the 231 children, it was an exhilarating first-hand experience of learning from professional coaches. With the completion of the second season, JBC has offered around 8000 young shuttlers with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their skills, identify their potential and gain valuable tournament experience.

Financial inclusion projects: An Indian adaptation of the global program “Dream, Save, Do: Financial Empowerment For Families” was launched in association with Sesame Workshop India as “Sapna, Bachat, Udaan: Aarthik Bal, Har Parivar ka Haq”. This initiative reached 1.7 million people and over 18 million children. MetLife Foundation has invested more than USD 6.4 million in grants to over 14 financial inclusion initiatives/institutions spread across India along with supporting Ujjivan (via Women’s World Banking) and Parinaam Foundation in Delhi to strengthen the ability of unbanked women entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and use credit well.
