SRINAGAR : In the very first year of the mandated corporate social responsibility (CSR) segment, international community has acclaimed J&K Bank’s major community development project ‘KOSHISH’. In the backdrop of this project, the bank has been awarded Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Award by ABP News in Mumbai on the World CSR Day.The Award was received by S S Sehgal, Senior President & Bank’s Zonal Head Mumbai on behalf of the bank.
The Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Awards recognize outstanding achievements in economic, environmental and social dimensions by identifying and rewarding exemplary businesses in various aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility. J&K Bank’s creative, innovative and socially empowering initiatives are, of late, receiving a lot of acclaim and national and international appreciation for their effectiveness and sustainability, the bank in a statement said.
On 7th August 2014, the bank along with a leading NGO of international repute Child Rights and You (CRY) Delhi, launched a mega CSR initiative – “Koshish” to meet the health, educational and nutritional needs of underprivileged children of the state. In the first phase, 40 far flung villages in three districts – Srinagar, Budgam & Ganderbal are being covered under the initiative covering 9224 children in 5100 households. The project is likely to have a long-term impact on the society with particular reference to under-privileged children in their survival, participation, development and protection.
Mushtaq Ahmad, Chairman & CEO, J&K Bank described the award as a recognition of Bank’s unrelenting commitment to the community welfare through innovative intervention. “Though our CSR is primarily aimed at grass root level mobilization towards prosperity and collective well being, yet we see such felicitations and awards as encouraging statements from the society”
“The Award will further revitalize our energies to work for individual empowerment and collective prosperity ” he added. While giving details of ‘KOSHISH’, the chairman said “This is a land marking project because the “CONFLICT” situation in the state spread over decades has played havoc with the infrastructure and other vital aspects of the people and the worst hit part of the society has been education. It is with this perspective that J&K Bank launched this project to pave way for us to play a crucial role to ensure financial security and development of individuals, families and societies at large in Jammu & Kashmir “
The chairman further stated that “in alignment with our VISION, J&K Bank, through its CSR activities would continue to enhance value creation in the society and the community it operates, through its services, conduct & initiatives , so as to promote sustained growth for the society and community , in fulfillment of its role as a socially Responsible Corporate. The core requirement for each project to be undertaken under CSR would be its relevance to the objectives of the Bank and to help in improving the quality of life of all the stakeholders associated with it.
It’s worth mentioning that the bank has simultaneously launched “MUSKAAN” project through which it has adopted more than hundred special children having multiple disabilities. The bank is having a comprehensive plan for supporting the inclusive education, therapeutic needs, recreational therapy and vocational training of differently abled persons.
Responsive towards individual as well as collective health, the Bank unfailingly has been implementing its robust endowment programme. The Bank provided generous financial assistance to the persons suffering from serious ailments for emergency treatments like chemotherapy, dialysis, cardiac ailments, medicines etc. At the same time, Bank made reasonable monetary contributions towards various health projects undertaken by reputed not-for-profit groups like Cancer society of Kashmir, Maya Foundation (Dealing with free surgeries in cleft lip & palate), and other organizations dealing with critical diseases.
The Bank also supported various institutes, that cater to the needs of the poor patients who find it difficult to meet the exorbitant expenses on their treatment outside, like Bank donated five (05) Critical Care machines to Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and Government Medical College Jammu..
