The Mining industry, like most others, is being forced to wend its way through complex and evolving economic, social and environmental challenges Respecting the environment and building constructive relationships with communities is fundamental to assuring the long-term future of mines and processing operations.

The new challenges call for immediate solutions since the community and investors are becoming increasingly concerned about social and environmental risks. Legal cases are increasing as stakeholders and civil society organizations are becoming more active and sophisticated. To face these challenges the mining industry needs to actively adopt a more active corporate social responsibility agenda.
