iod handbook on CSR“IOD has prepared a comprehensive CSR handbook to create greater awareness about the new and emerging concepts of CSR and facilitate the adoption of plan, implement, measure, report and communicate CSR initiatives.”, J.S. Ahluwalia, President, Institute of Directors said.

This Handbook is a revised edition of an earlier publication brought out in 2012. It has been revised, updated and edited by Dr. Vivek K. Agnihotri, Chairman (Research & Training), IOD particularly in the context of the Companies Act, 2013.

“I am sure the readers would find it a handy document for quick reference at all times. It will enable them to address various issues relating to Corporate Social Responsibility in a professional and efficient manner within the framework prescribed by their respective organization.”, said Dr. V.K. Agnihotri, IAS, Chairman (Research & Training), IOD.

This handbook can be used as a primer on Corporate Social Responsibility. As such, it contains information on how to assess the effects of business activities on stakeholders, develop and implement  Corporate Social Responsibility strategy and commitments, and measure, evaluate and report on performance and engage with stakeholders, in the context of the Companies Act, 2013.

Senior managers in firms of all sizes from large corporations to small and medium-sized enterprises to micro-businesses should find it valuable, as will management teams, board members and front-line employees as well as industry association personnel, who work with businesses. It is hoped that the handbook will also prove useful to those already engaged in CSR activities.

It is hoped that those outside the commercial world (e.g., government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and members of the public) will gain insights into the challenges firms face, while addressing the effect of their activities on society.

The handbook distils processes and practices from a variety of sources and is intended to be suggestive, not prescriptive. It has four parts, as follows:
Part I – An Overview of CSR.
Part II – Sets out the Implementation, Framework for operationalising, communication and reporting of CSR.
Part III – Trends and Scenario of CSR.
Part IV – Support material, in the form of Annexures.
