This Durga Puja, Come Together Over the Flavours of Tradition

Durga Puja is a celebration of homecoming, friendship and the joy of being together. It is the laughter around a dining table, the nostalgia of recipes passed down through generations, and the irresistible pull of festive food that brings everyone closer. This October, Taj Cidade de Goa invites Goa to embrace the spirit of Durga Puja with The Flavours of Bengal an immersive celebration of Bengal’s culinary heritage, festive rituals and the warmth of shared experiences.

Beyond the familiar favourites discover ThakurbarirPotolGhonto or Golbarir Kosha Mangsho which are rare delicacies inspired by Bengal’s aristocratic kitchens, simmered in a richly spiced curry. Intricate in preparation and distinctive in flavour, these heirloom creation offers a glimpse into the refined culinary traditions of Bengal’s zamindar households.

Equally evocative is PisimarPostoPora Mach, a cherished family-style preparation of fish charred in banana leaves, celebrating Bengal’s enduring love for fish and its ingenious use of poppy seeds. Earthy, smoky and steeped in the nostalgia of home cooking, this lesser-known speciality brings the flavours of a Bengali family kitchen to the festive table.

Featuring celebrated Chef Ananya Banerjee, a curated dinner menu, live music and the mesmerising spectacle of a traditional Dhunuchi performance on dhaker taal, the celebration promises an evening where food, culture and community comes together.

Speaking about the experience, Chef Shahid, Executive Chef, Taj Cidade de Goa, shares: “Durga Puja is about coming together, celebrating our roots and creating memories over food. With The Flavours of Bengal, we hope to introduce our guests to the beautiful stories behind lesser-known regional recipes while recreating the warmth and generosity of a festive Bengali gathering. We look forward to welcoming families and friends from across Goa to celebrate, connect and discover something special around our table.”

Taj Cidade de Goa is where friends reunite, families celebrate and every meal becomes a reason to come together.
