Most people start with firmness and material. Then the mattress arrives, sits an inch short at the foot of the bed, and the comfort conversation stops mattering.

A double bed mattress has more size variables than any other. Sort those out first, and choosing the feel afterwards is the easy part.

The width is fixed at 48 inches

In India, a standard double bed mattress is 48 inches wide, which is four feet. That is the one number that does not change.

It is worth knowing how that compares before you order. A queen is 60 inches, a full foot wider. So if two adults share the bed every night and the room can take a queen, that extra width is the upgrade to consider. If the room is compact, or the bed is mostly for one person with occasional company, 48 inches is the sensible call.

The length is where people slip up

Double mattresses come in three lengths, and Indian bed frames are not standardised.

•         72 inches, or 6 feet. Fits standard bedrooms and suits sleepers up to around 5 feet 7.

•         75 inches, or 6 feet 3. A little extra room so taller sleepers do not have their feet at the edge.

•         78 inches, or 6 feet 6. The longest option, and the one to take if either sleeper is close to six feet.

Measure the inside of your frame, not the outer edge. A frame sold as a double can be any of these three lengths, and the gap only shows up on delivery day.

Thickness changes the feel and the bed height

Our double mattresses run from sleek 4-inch builds up to 8-inch profiles.

•         4 to 5 inches. Sits low and feels firmer. Useful on a high frame or a hydraulic storage bed you have to lift.

•         6 inches. The everyday middle ground, and what most households end up with.

•         8 inches. Deeper compression support, which matters when two people share the bed nightly.

One practical note. If you go thicker, check that your fitted sheets have deep enough pockets before the mattress arrives.

If your frame is not a standard size

Older cots, antique frames and carpenter-built beds often do not match the 48-inch standard at all. You do not have to compromise on that.

Duroflex offers custom sizing. Select the custom size option on the product page, submit your exact length and width in inches or centimetres, and the mattress is built to those measurements. It is the difference between a mattress that fits your bed and one that nearly does.

Now pick the feel with Duroflex mattresses

With the size settled, 25 mattresses in the collection come in double. These are the ones worth shortlisting.

•         Duroflex LiveIn Orthopedic Memory Foam. Medium firm, with 5 Zone Orthopedic Support, adaptive memory foam and triple anti microbial fabric.

•         Duroflex LiveIn 2 in 1. A dual-sided roll pack mattress with a different comfort level on each side, so you can flip rather than replace.

•         Duroflex Back Magic Orthopedic Coir. Firm, doctor-recommended, and naturally cooling,

•         Duroflex Durobond Pro Dual Side Coir. Dual-side usage with anti sagging construction and firm back support,

•         Duroflex Propel Plus Arctic Ice. A pocket spring mattress with a Euro top, copper-infused layer and zero motion transfer, for couples who wake each other up.

•         Duroflex Back Magic Pro Plus. Built around 5 Zone Orthopedic Support for back pain, and carrying a 15 year warranty.

One thing to watch. Balance Plus comes in single, queen and king but not double, so check the size options on the product page before settling on a model.

What comes with the order

•         A 100 night trial, because ten minutes in a showroom tells you very little about how a mattress sleeps in week three.

•         Free doorstep delivery, shipped from our factory.

•         Warranty of up to 10 years, and 15 years on Back Magic Pro Plus. Register it once the mattress arrives.

•         No-cost EMI at checkout if you would rather spread the payment.

Why people choose Duroflex

Duroflex has been making mattresses in India for decades and has served over 1.3 crore families, with orthopedic support as the starting point rather than a label added later.

•         5 Zone Orthopedic Support across our Duropedic range, tested and recommended by the National Health Academy.

•         Cooling engineering built into the materials, from Arctic Ice layers to copper infused comfort layers.

•         Stores across the country. Find your nearest Duroflex store on the store locator and lie on your shortlist.

•         Support all week. Call 1800 108 5008 any day between 9:30 am and 6:30 pm, or write to support@duroflexworld.com.

In the right order

Measure the frame, pick the length, choose the thickness, then decide on the feel. Do it that way and your Duroflex double bed mattress will fit the bed properly and feel right on the first night.
