Indian weddings have always been celebrations of grandeur. From elaborate décor and exquisite cuisine to vibrant ceremonies and carefully orchestrated festivities, weddings have traditionally been about creating an occasion worthy of the moment. But the Indian wedding is entering a new chapter.

Today, couples are looking beyond the conventional banquet hall or ballroom. They are seeking celebrations that feel more personal, immersive and experiential — where the destination becomes part of the story, and hospitality extends far beyond the ceremony itself The rise of destination weddings reflects this fundamental shift. A wedding is no longer simply an event to attend; it is an experience to be lived, shared and remembered. And as this new approach to weddings takes shape, hospitality is evolving with it.

From Wedding Venue to Wedding Destination

The traditional wedding venue was designed around the function. A destination wedding, on the other hand, is designed around the experience.

The setting, accommodation, dining, celebrations and leisure come together to create a seamless wedding journey. Guests are not simply arriving for a few hours; they are checking into an experience that can span an entire weekend or more.

This evolution is changing what couples expect from their wedding destinations. Beautiful spaces remain important, but so are the moments in between — leisurely breakfasts with family, conversations over coffee, evenings spent together and unplanned celebrations that become lasting memories.

At Stone Water by Zuper, we are embracing this shift by creating a destination where celebrations, stays and shared experiences come together seamlessly. With 126 rooms, expansive venues, a scenic riverfront lawn for traditional vidhi ceremonies and curated dining experiences, we enable couples and their families to move beyond individual functions and experience a complete celebration — from the first arrival to the final farewell.

Today’s couples are looking for the freedom to celebrate their way, without being confined by conventional formats or rigid schedules. For us, adapting to this evolving expectation means looking beyond the traditional idea of wedding hosting and creating immersive, thoughtfully designed experiences where every detail adds meaning, while guests feel comfortable, connected and truly part of the celebration.”

Having witnessed the evolution of hospitality over the years, I believe the wedding experience today is defined as much by the guest journey as it is by the celebration itself. The new luxury in weddings is not always about extravagance; it is about exclusivity, comfort, personalisation and effortless hospitality said Ajay Badekar Director, Stone Water By Zuper.

The Rise of Heritage Weddings

Did you ever think it would be possible to get married in a royal fort? Well, now it is!

In recent years, we’ve got a glimpse of the future of wedding hospitality, and spoiler alert: it is not bigger venues, longer guest lists or increasingly elaborate productions. It is simply about finding a place that does half the work for you.

For years, the formula for a spectacular wedding was fairly easy to understand: more guests, more décor, more entertainment, more of everything. But the conversation around weddings is now changing. As customer preferences evolve, the hospitality industry must evolve with them. It’s not just about providing the venue and rooms anymore; it’s about bringing it all together for a couple’s special day.

One of the most exciting developments in wedding hospitality is the rise of heritage weddings. Indian brides and grooms, and their parents, want it all: the grand location, amazing décor, unforgettable food, the entertainment that stole the show… all without breaking the bank! As the search for a destination or venue that is uniquely theirs widens, couples are now looking outside the box. And boutique heritage resorts are uniquely positioned to make their dream come true.

While a banquet can be transformed into almost anything, that also means it starts with a blank canvas. A heritage property starts with a regal world that already exists. The architecture, the old courtyards, the marks of time, the stories attached to the rooms — all give a wedding an identity before a single flower is arranged.

This became increasingly clear when we launched Seclude Fort Unchagaon, a 300-year-old fort with 22 rooms spread across 19 acres. Within a week, we received multiple wedding queries. It was a clear indication that couples were looking for something beyond the traditional wedding venue says Rohit Sethi, Founder, Seclude Hotels

Just two hours from Delhi-NCR, Seclude Fort Unchagaon gives couples the feeling of having left the city far behind without asking their guests to undertake a long journey. The entire wedding becomes a stay as much as a celebration: everyone arrives, checks in and spends the next few days actually being together.

A mehendi can be intimate in a Zenana courtyard. A larger evening can take over the Grand Lawn gardens. A formal dinner can be held in the Diwan Khana, where kings once named their successors. The fort’s existing spaces give different functions different personalities, without having to construct a new world for each one.Even the details guests encounter between functions become part of the wedding. The Tiger Room, with its preserved shikar-era pieces, the Air India corridor, the Juliette Balcony all become the sort of places people wander into and immediately start talking about.

Heritage resorts like these already come with the architecture, the atmosphere, the stories and, in the case of a fort, a fairly convincing royal backdrop. Add your people, your food, your music and a very good reason to celebrate, and you have a wedding that needs less creating and more enjoying.
