CBI had registered 50 cases against various builders across India in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions.
NEW DELHI (India CSR): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on September 10, 2026 conducted searches at 12 locations across Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune in connection with five newly registered criminal cases involving alleged collusion between builders and officials of financial institutions. The five cases were registered pursuant to an order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Four cases concern the Ozone Group and its related entities in connection with projects in Bengaluru and Mumbai. The fifth case concerns M/s Vivansaa Baalsam and its Bengaluru project.
Five New Cases
The CBI has named builders and unknown officials of various financial institutions in the cases. The allegations include criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal misconduct by officials of financial institutions. According to the agency, the cases concern an alleged nexus between builders and financial-institution officials that allegedly led to cheating and defrauding of homebuyers in Bengaluru and Mumbai. A large number of homebuyers had approached the Hon’ble Supreme Court seeking relief in relation to alleged fraudulent activities by builders that have affected them for several years.
Search Evidence Seized
The searches were carried out to gather evidence concerning the alleged wider conspiracy, including possible diversion of funds, financial irregularities and fraudulent practices in the housing real-estate sector. The CBI said the operation resulted in the seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices and other materials. These are being examined as part of the investigation. The agency said its investigation seeks to establish the role of the builders, connected entities and financial-institution officials named or under examination in the cases.
Total Reaches Fifty-Five
Earlier, the CBI had registered 50 cases against various builders across India in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions. With the registration of these five new cases, the total number of builder-related cases registered by the agency under the Court’s directions has reached 55. The CBI stated that it is conducting an expeditious and impartial investigation to ensure accountability in economic-offence cases and to bring to justice those found responsible for allegedly defrauding homebuyers by violating applicable laws and guidelines.
