Tata Power commissions the 400kV Jalpura-Khurja transmission corridor with 162 CKM lines and a 1,000 MVA GIS substation in Uttar Pradesh.
NEW DELHI (India CSR): Tata Power has commissioned the second element of its Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Project in Uttar Pradesh, comprising a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line of 162 circuit kilometres (CKM) and a 400/220 kV GIS substation at Jalpura with 1,000 MVA transformation capacity. The project is expected to strengthen power transmission connectivity for growing demand centres across the National Capital Region (NCR) and Western Uttar Pradesh, including the Noida region. It has been executed through TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited (TPJKPTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power.
High-Voltage Grid Link
The newly commissioned transmission corridor connects Khurja and Jalpura through two circuits of approximately 81 km each, together totalling 162 CKM. Khurja is an important power node in Western Uttar Pradesh and supports the movement of electricity towards NCR and adjoining demand centres. The 400 kV double-circuit line creates a high-voltage link designed to improve the movement of power across the regional transmission network. Such transmission infrastructure is important for meeting rising electricity demand from urban expansion, commercial activity, industries and residential consumers in NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh.
Major Power Gateway
Tata Power has also commissioned a 400/220 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Jalpura with a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA. The substation will enable the transfer of electricity from the 400 kV high-voltage network to the 220 kV grid. This is expected to support improved grid reliability, resilience and operational efficiency in the region. A GIS substation uses compact equipment enclosed in a controlled environment and is generally suited for locations where land availability, reliability and network performance are key considerations.
Supporting Regional Growth
The Jalpura-Khurja transmission project adds critical infrastructure for the next phase of development in NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh. Reliable electricity transmission is essential for supporting homes, businesses, public services, digital infrastructure and industrial growth. The commissioning also reflects the importance of strengthening transmission networks alongside power generation. As demand for electricity rises and renewable energy capacity expands, robust transmission systems will be required to move power efficiently across regions and maintain grid stability.

With this commissioning, Tata Power said its transmission portfolio has reached 7,900 circuit kilometres of lines operational and under execution across India. The company continues to develop large-scale transmission infrastructure aimed at supporting a reliable, resilient and future-ready electricity grid. The project contributes to the broader objective of improving power connectivity in high-growth regions while strengthening India’s electricity transmission network.
