Vedanta Power’s CSR initiative, Project Aarogya, has conducted 152 mobile health camps, benefiting over 4,600 villagers in Sakti, Chhattisgarh.
SINGHITARAI, Sakti (Chhattisgarh) (India CSR): Vedanta Power’s Sakti Thermal Plant is strengthening access to essential healthcare through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Project Aarogya. The programme has organised 152 mobile health camps, benefiting more than 4,600 villagers in Singhitarai, Odekera and Nimohi Gram Panchayats of Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. Through a dedicated Mobile Health Unit, the initiative takes primary healthcare services directly to rural communities, where access to doctors and basic treatment can be limited. The programme aims to ensure timely medical consultations, early health screening and medicines for families without requiring them to make frequent and costly journeys to urban healthcare centres.
Partnership Delivers Care
Project Aarogya is implemented in partnership with the PHD Rural Development Foundation, New Delhi. Medical professionals, including doctors and healthcare staff, conduct daily health camps at designated village locations under the Mobile Health Unit programme. Villagers receive free consultations, diagnostic screening and essential medicines for common illnesses and primary treatment needs. The regular camps have created a dependable local healthcare support system for residents, particularly elderly persons, women, children and families with limited means of travel. By providing medical attention close to homes, the initiative addresses a key rural challenge: the time, transport cost and inconvenience involved in reaching hospitals or clinics located in towns and cities.

Prevention Builds Awareness
The health camps offer screening for diabetes, hypertension, anaemia and other common health concerns, helping residents seek medical guidance at an early stage. However, Project Aarogya goes beyond curative treatment by placing equal focus on preventive healthcare. Regular awareness sessions are conducted on maternal and child health, nutrition, hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices. These sessions are intended to help villagers recognise warning signs, maintain better hygiene and make informed choices for their families’ wellbeing. The initiative combines consultation, medicines, screening and awareness in one community-based platform. This integrated approach can improve health literacy while encouraging people to seek timely treatment and make preventive healthcare a regular part of daily life.
Villagers Value Services
Community members have welcomed the doorstep healthcare initiative. Shail Dansena of Katharrapali village described the Mobile Health Unit as a lifeline for rural families, highlighting the quality of medical consultation and free medicines available through the camps. Haldhar Dansena and Avinash Dansena from Nimohi Gram Panchayat said the services have reduced the need to travel to urban centres for primary treatment, resulting in savings of both time and money. They also noted an improvement in health awareness in their communities. Through Project Aarogya, Vedanta Power is linking its Corporate Social Responsibility work with community wellbeing, bringing regular primary healthcare support closer to villages around its Sakti operations.
