Mobile diagnostic laboratory aims to bring timely testing and early disease detection closer to remote communities
BHUBANESWAR (India CSR): NTPC Limited’s Eastern Region-II Headquarters, Bhubaneswar, has strengthened its commitment to equitable healthcare access by supporting a ‘Lab on Wheels’ Mobile Diagnostic Laboratory for the Health Department of Mon District in Nagaland. The initiative, undertaken under NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, is designed to take essential diagnostic services directly to people living in remote and difficult-to-reach communities.
The mobile diagnostic laboratory was formally inaugurated in the presence of the Chief Medical Officer, Mon, along with senior officials from the district administration and the health department. The facility is expected to support frontline public-health efforts by improving the availability of diagnostic testing in areas where access to healthcare infrastructure can be limited by distance, terrain and service capacity.
Timely diagnosis is a critical part of effective healthcare delivery. Through the Lab on Wheels, residents will be able to access medical tests closer to their homes, reducing the need for long travel to larger health facilities. The mobile unit is intended to facilitate early detection of diseases, support quicker medical consultation and help communities receive essential diagnostic services when they need them most.

The initiative reflects NTPC’s focus on meaningful CSR interventions that complement government healthcare systems. By bringing diagnostic capability closer to underserved populations, the project can help strengthen preventive healthcare and support timely medical intervention. It also demonstrates the value of mobile healthcare models in districts where last-mile delivery remains a major challenge.
Mon District’s remote geography makes accessible healthcare services especially important for local residents. NTPC’s support for the Lab on Wheels is expected to enhance the district’s public-health response and improve diagnostic access for thousands of people. The initiative aligns with the broader objective of ensuring that quality healthcare services reach citizens regardless of where they live.
Through this CSR intervention, NTPC has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive growth, community welfare and improved health outcomes. The Lab on Wheels is expected to become an important support system for the Health Department of Mon District as it works to expand healthcare access across remote areas of Nagaland.
