RECPDCL transfers Vizag Power Transmission Limited SPV to Adani Energy Solutions for a major interstate power corridor in Andhra Pradesh

NEW DELHI (India CSR®): REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over Vizag Power Transmission Limited, the project-specific special purpose vehicle (SPV) for a major interstate transmission project, to Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL). The transfer was completed on August 14, 2026. The project is designed to support proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in the Vizag region of Andhra Pradesh. RECPDCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power. It acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for the project; REC Limited informed today.

Adani Energy Selected Through Competitive Bidding

Adani Energy Solutions Limited emerged as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL. The project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. The project represents an important transmission infrastructure initiative for enabling renewable-energy-linked industrial growth, including green hydrogen and green ammonia production in the Vizag area.

SPV Handover Completed

The project SPV was handed over by Rajkumar Sonkar, HoD (CS), RECPDCL, to Shashank Sharma, CBDO, Adani Energy Solutions Limited. The handover took place in the presence of Ratnesh Kumar, General Manager (Engineering), along with senior officials from RECPDCL, Adani Energy Solutions Limited and Central Transmission Utility of India Limited. The transfer enables Adani Energy Solutions to take forward the development and implementation of the interstate transmission system.

Large-Scale Substations and Transmission Lines Planned

The project includes the establishment of major substations and high-voltage transmission lines across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Its key components include:

  • A 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Pendurthi GIS substation.
  • A 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation.
  • A 765 kV double-circuit line from Pendurthi to Srikakulam, spanning around 226 km.
  • A 765 kV double-circuit line from Khammam-II to Warangal New, spanning around 153 km.
  • A 765 kV double-circuit line from Khammam-II to Pendurthi, spanning around 338 km.
  • A 400 kV double-circuit line from Khammam-II to the existing Khammam substation, spanning around 60 km.
  • Associated transmission works.

Together, these assets are expected to strengthen the evacuation and transmission network required for the proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag region.

30-Month Implementation Timeline

The transmission project has an estimated cost of Rs. 8,386 crore and is scheduled for implementation within 30 months. The proposed infrastructure is expected to improve grid connectivity and support the movement of power across the interstate transmission network. It also aligns with India’s larger push towards clean energy, renewable power integration and green industrial development. Green hydrogen and green ammonia are expected to play an important role in reducing emissions in sectors that are difficult to electrify directly. However, their large-scale production requires a reliable power supply and robust transmission infrastructure. The Vizag project is intended to help build that enabling backbone.

Strengthening India’s Green Energy Infrastructure

The handover of Vizag Power Transmission Limited marks the next stage in the execution of the project. With Adani Energy Solutions now taking charge of the SPV, the focus will shift towards project development, construction and timely commissioning. The project also underlines the role of competitive bidding and specialised transmission infrastructure in supporting India’s clean-energy ambitions. As green hydrogen projects gain scale, reliable transmission systems will be essential to connect generation sources, industrial clusters and national power networks.
