- Jindal Foundation links festival participation with community bonding and rural development outreach
ANGUL (India CSR): Jindal Foundation, the social arm of Jindal Steel, celebrated Raja Festival with more than 1,000 women and girls from local villages at Jan-Jeevika Kendra and Jamunali Village in Angul district, Odisha, on June 17, 2026, to promote community participation, local culture and women’s engagement.
The celebration focused on Odisha’s Raja Festival, which is associated with womanhood, fertility of Mother Earth and community bonding.
Women and girls from nearby villages participated in traditional attire and festive jewellery. The event created a shared platform for cultural expression and local participation.
The celebration included Poda Pitha, decorated Raja swings and community-based festive activities.
Several cultural and recreational competitions were organised. These included Raja Paan Making, Musical Chair, Puchi Dance and Solo Dance.
The activities encouraged participation among women and girls across age groups.
The programme was attended by Swami Satyabindu Saraswati; Mini Nair and Anita Mittal from Jindal Mahila Samiti; Shila Pradhan, Sarpanch of Jamunali Gram Panchayat; Dhurba Charan Dehury, President, Kuio; P.K. Panda, EVP – Liaison and PR; Rishi Pathania, Head – CSR, Jindal Steel; Seema Verma, Nutritionist, OHC; Sasmita Rani Das, AGM, Safety Department; Anita Mohanty, Special Guest; and employees from various departments of Jindal Steel.
Welcoming the gathering, Shila Pradhan appreciated Jindal Foundation’s efforts in preserving local traditions and supporting rural development through livelihood initiatives that have strengthened the socio-economic status of women.
Jayanta Kumar Mohanty, General Manager and Head of CSR, Angul, thanked the Gram Panchayat representatives and community members for their support.
The event reflected a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach linked to community development, local cultural preservation and women’s participation.
Such community programmes are relevant for CSR and ESG professionals because they show how companies engage with local communities beyond infrastructure and service delivery.
The celebrations concluded with prize distribution ceremonies and community lunches at both locations.
The event brought together local residents, community representatives and company employees, creating space for cultural continuity and community interaction.
