CSR: Hyundai Motor India Foundation Strengthens Rural Education with ₹5.22 Cr Center of Excellence in Kancheepuram

New academic block with 16 classrooms and science labs to benefit nearly 1,000 students annually

The initiative aims to ensure that students have access to quality infrastructure, modern learning environments, and opportunities that prepare them for a rapidly evolving world.

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu (India CSR): Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has strengthened rural education infrastructure in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs. 5.22 crore to establish the Hyundai Center for Education Excellence at the Government Higher Secondary School, Thandalam, in Kancheepuram district.

The new academic block aims to enhance the quality of learning by creating safe, modern, and inclusive learning spaces for students in the region.

Admissions Open for BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG

The facility was inaugurated by Thiru T.M. Anbarasan, Honourable Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MS&ME), Government of Tamil Nadu.

Modern Infrastructure to Improve Learning Outcomes

Spread across 15,750 square feet, the Hyundai Center for Education Excellence features 16 well-designed classrooms and two fully equipped science laboratories. The upgraded infrastructure is designed to support experiential learning and practical science education, enabling students to engage more actively in classroom activities. The improved facilities are also expected to enhance student attendance and participation, while creating a safe and dignified environment for learning.

Nearly 1,000 Students to Benefit Every Year

The new education center is expected to benefit nearly 1,000 students annually from Thandalam and surrounding villages. By providing improved classroom facilities and modern science laboratories, the initiative aims to nurture curiosity, scientific thinking, and aspirations for higher education among students studying in government schools.

Facility Handed Over to Local Community

Following the inauguration, the new academic block was formally handed over to the School Management Committee and Thandalam Village Panchayat.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including:

  • Gopalakrishnan C.S., Trustee – HMIF
  • Saravanan T., Trustee – HMIF
  • Mr. K. Selvaperunthagai, Member of Legislative Assembly, Sriperumbudur
  • Dr. A. Nalini, Chief Educational Officer, Kancheepuram
  • T.E. Sasikumar, President, Thandalam Panchayat
  • Chandrasekar, Headmaster, Government Higher Secondary School, Thandalam

Education as the Foundation of Progress

Speaking at the inauguration, Gopalakrishnan C.S., Trustee, HMIF, said:, “Education is the cornerstone of progress, and we are proud to help shape brighter futures for the children of Thandalam and surrounding villages. This new facility reflects Hyundai’s commitment to inclusive and community-centric growth, ensuring equal opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. We believe that empowering young minds today will build stronger, more resilient communities tomorrow. With every such initiative, Hyundai reaffirms its dedication to fostering a more equitable, progressive and sustainable society.”

A Community-Driven Development Initiative

The project was undertaken following requests from the Thandalam Village Panchayat and the School Management Committee, highlighting HMIF’s approach of implementing need-based community development initiatives. By investing in educational infrastructure in rural Tamil Nadu, Hyundai Motor India Foundation continues to contribute to inclusive and long-term community development.
