With perseverance and resourcefulness, women across Amazon’s operations network are transforming obstacles into opportunities for growth and financial stability.
NEW DELHI (India CSR): For many women, independence takes shape gradually through everyday decisions to step beyond the familiar, trust their instincts and learn along the way. This International Women’s Day, Amazon India shares three such journeys of women navigating change across roles and regions. Each story reflects how access to flexible work, inclusive programs and steady opportunity can support financial independence and personal growth.

Rama Devi: Finding Stability Through Steady Work
Nine years ago, Rama Devi was managing a small automobile oil business in Pondicherry that struggled to sustain her family. As a single mother of two daughters, there were months when rent went unpaid and providing regular meals felt uncertain.
A cousin already working with Amazon Hub Delivery program (formerly ‘I Have Space’) introduced her to the program. It enables local store owners running their primary business to make effective use of their extra available time and infrastructure to deliver packages to Amazon customers within a 2–4-kilometre radius of their store location, providing them opportunity to earn additional income. The supplemental income helped her cover household expenses, pay school fees and gradually regain financial balance.
Today, Rama Devi manages both business and providing delivery service, having rebuilt her life step by step. Her daughters have graduated and one of them now works at Amazon as a manager. Reflecting on her journey, she says, “Amazon Hub Delivery program provided the opportunity when I needed it the most and gave me the confidence to plan ahead.” Her story shows how the right opportunity at the right time can create lasting change.

Lekshmi: Building Stability for Herself and Giving Back to the Community
Lekshmi works as a delivery associate with Amazon’s Delivery Service Provider partner in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. A single mother of two daughters. She joined the workforce taking on full financial responsibility of her family.
Confidence grew steadily with time and experience. As her own life found stability, her focus expanded. Despite being the sole earner for her household, Lekshmi ensures that ten children at a nearby orphanage receive daily meals, a commitment she has maintained consistently. She says, “It is just some food, but they wait for me every day and seeing a smile on their face gives me satisfaction.” Through steady effort and compassion, Lekshmi continues to inspire her colleagues and community, showing how personal resilience can lead to meaningful change.
Bhuvaneshwari: A Career Built on the Road
Driving a 20-foot vehicle on intracity routes, Bhuvaneshwari works as a trucking partner with Amazon operating out of Chennai. A single mother supporting her family, she built her career across a range of roles – stage singer, ambulance driver, and driving school instructor, before financial stability remained out of reach.
Inspired by her father and uncle, both professional drivers, she learned to drive at a young age. The disruption caused by COVID prompted her to seek more dependable livelihood that could offer consistency and growth. In 2022, she joined Amazon operations through a carrier partner, starting on rotational routes and gradually earned the responsibility of managing fixed intracity routes in Chennai. She says, “Driving gives me confidence. With steady work, I can take care of my family and plan for my son’s future without uncertainty. Bhuvaneshwari’s story reflects how access to structured opportunities and consistent work can help women build stability, self-belief, and long-term security. Through resilience and steady effort, she is creating a life of dignity and progress — not just for herself, but for her family.
