The moment unfolded live in front of millions of students, hours after the Uttar Pradesh government honoured Alakh Pandey at the UP Samman Diwas, where he received a cash award of INR 11 lakh. Addressing his students during the live class, Alakh Pandey shared that he had decided to gift the entire prize money to the Indian Army, calling it a gift to the nation. As students flooded the live chat with suggestions for other causes, he responded in real time, extending the commitment further. He went on to pledge INR 11 lakh each towards the Indian Army, Indian football team, Indian hockey team, cancer patients, farmers, government schools, volleyball players, and old-age homes. With eight causes in total, the final commitment touched INR 88 lakh, eight times the original award amount.
Addressing students during the session, Pandey clarified that it was not a donation, but a gift for the nation, saying, “Bharat ke Guddu Gudiya ki taraf se yeh gift hai.”
