Hindustan Zinc receives the honour for Business Excellence in Non-Ferrous Metal Sector.
UDAIPUR: Hindustan Zinc, an operating company of Vedanta in Zinc, Lead and Silver business, was honoured with the prestigious ‘Dun & Bradstreet – Corporate Award 2012’ under non-ferrous metals sector in a glittering award ceremony at Hotel Trident, Mumbai on May 28, 2013. The coveted award was presented to Mr. Pavan Kaushik, Associate Vice President – Corporate Communication, Hindustan Zinc by Mr. Jayant Kumar Banthia – Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra.
Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), the world’s leading provider of global business information, knowledge and insight, felicitated India’s leading corporates during this gala event. The D&B Corporate Awards 2012, closely tied to D&B’s study on India’s Top 500 Companies 2012, recognises the twin virtues of size and growth in corporate India.
Hindustan Zinc received the award in the non-ferrous metals category. The company is India’s only and the World’s Largest Integrated Producer of Zinc. With over one million tonne of metal production capacity, Hindustan Zinc also governs about 85% share in the growing Indian zinc market. The company produces 474 MW of captive thermal power and about 275 MW of wind power, as part of its green initiative. It is also India’s largest silver and primary lead producer.
Post disinvestment Hindustan Zinc has grown five-fold, from 170,000 tonnes of metal production to today over 1 million tonnes. The existing mine life also touches a comfortable base of over 25 years. Post disinvestment the company has invested about Rs. 12,000 crore in the three large scale expansion plans that included expansion of mines, smelters, captive power, silver production and foray into wind-energy business.
The company’s plants have been set-up on most environment friendly technologies that allows the plants to operate on ‘zero discharge’. The company has persistent focus on minimal impact on environment, re-cycle & re-use practices, and is conserving bio-diversity in and around its operating units.
The ‘Dun & Bradstreet – Corporate Awards 2012’ recognises and felicitate corporate India’s leading companies from various sectors. The base universe of the companies considered for the Dun & Bradstreet – Corporate Awards 2012 comprises of the top 500 companies of India covered under the publication, ‘India’s Top 500 Companies 2012’. The thirteen edition of this publication was launched during this ceremony.
