Over the next five years, the forest is expected to absorb nearly 63,000 tons of CO₂

PUNE (India CSR): In a landmark environmental milestone, the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., has announced the successful plantation of 5 lakh trees at the IONIQ Forest in Dange Chowk, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune.

This achievement brings the Foundation halfway toward its ambitious target of 10 lakh trees across 90.5 acres within a year, positioning the IONIQ Forest as Maharashtra’s largest and most ambitious urban afforestation project.

Driving a Green Revolution in Urban Maharashtra

Launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2025, the IONIQ Forest embodies Hyundai’s vision of sustainable mobility and environmental stewardship. Developed using the Miyawaki method, the project aims to create a dense, self-sustaining forest ecosystem that restores biodiversity and combats urban heat islands.

With 41 native tree species already taking root, the initiative is transforming a once-barren stretch of land into a thriving ecological zone—proof that purposeful CSR can reshape cityscapes and strengthen community resilience.

A Living Example of Corporate Sustainability

The IONIQ Forest is not just a plantation project—it’s a symbol of climate action, community inclusion, and ecological innovation. Within months, HMIF has mobilized local communities, environmental experts, and green volunteers to turn 90.5 acres into a growing oxygen reserve.

Over the next five years, the forest is expected to absorb nearly 63,000 tons of CO₂, supporting India’s broader mission of achieving net-zero emissions. Additionally, the initiative has created green livelihoods for over 100 tribal community members, combining environmental restoration with social empowerment.

Expanding CSR Impact Across Maharashtra

The IONIQ Forest forms a crucial part of Hyundai Motor India Foundation’s Rs. 56-crore CSR investment in Maharashtra, which extends to healthcare, road safety, education, and social welfare. Together, these projects align with the state’s sustainable development goals and Hyundai’s vision for a cleaner, healthier India.
