NEW DELHI (India CSR): In a time when financial institutions are measured not just by profits but by purpose, Axis Bank Limited has reinforced its commitment to inclusive progress. During the financial year 2024–25, the Bank allocated Rs 426.57 crores toward Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, slightly exceeding its statutory requirement of Rs 425.92 crores under the Companies Act, 2013. This achievement reflects Axis Bank’s dedication to empowering communities, strengthening livelihoods, and advancing environmental goals across India.

Guided by its vision of “Open for Progress,” the Bank continued to integrate sustainability and social responsibility into its core strategy. Through its CSR arm, Axis Bank Foundation, and strategic partnerships, the Bank’s initiatives impacted millions — from rural livelihood programs and digital education through Axis DilSe®, to large-scale green initiatives that surpassed tree plantation targets. Axis Bank’s FY25 CSR performance showcases how purposeful banking can shape a resilient, equitable, and sustainable future.

INDIA CSR NEWS ANALYSIS

Transforming Rural India: The Mission 2 Million Milestone

A cornerstone of Axis Bank’s CSR work is the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) under the Axis Bank Foundation. FY 2025 marked the successful culmination of the Mission 2 Million initiative—empowering over 2.05 million rural households across 300 districts in 32 states and union territories since 2018.

The program provided smallholder farmers, women, and rural entrepreneurs with financial literacy, agri-based training, and livelihood opportunities, fostering resilience against economic shocks and climate change. In FY 2025 alone, 3.9 lakh individuals benefited directly from Axis Bank’s livelihood projects.

Building on this success, Axis Bank launched Mission 4 Million during the Abhisaran 2025 event, a multi-stakeholder forum. The next chapter aims to uplift an additional 2 million rural households by promoting skill-based employment, women entrepreneurship, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Education for All: Expanding the Axis DilSe® Program

Education continues to be a critical focus area for Axis Bank’s CSR vision. The Axis DilSe® program, one of the largest school education initiatives by a corporate in India, reached remarkable milestones in FY 2025:

  • 7,400+ schools supported
  • 60,000+ teachers trained
  • 7.7 lakh students benefitted across multiple states

The program emphasized improving learning outcomes, digital literacy, and school infrastructure in remote and underserved regions such as the North-East, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.

Beyond foundational education, Axis Bank reinforced its long-term investment in higher learning and research excellence:

  • Axis Bank Centre for Mathematics & Computing at IISc, Bangalore supported 600 students and 8 professors, producing 54 research papers.
  • Partnership with Plaksha University advanced the development of a Future Tech building for innovation and data sciences.

By integrating technology and pedagogy, Axis Bank is shaping the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

Green Finance and Environmental Stewardship

As a financial institution aligned with India’s sustainability goals, Axis Bank’s environmental responsibility extends far beyond its banking operations. In FY 2025, the Bank achieved and exceeded its earlier environmental target of planting 2 million trees, successfully planting 3.27 million trees nationwide through its CSR ecosystem.

New Green Commitment:

Axis Bank has now pledged to plant 8 million trees by 2030, focusing on:

  • Habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation
  • Carbon sequestration
  • Community-driven afforestation initiatives

The Bank’s lending practices also reflect its sustainability vision. As of March 31, 2025:

  • Rs 48,412 crores sanctioned toward sustainable and green finance (target Rs 60,000 crore by 2030)
  • Rs 22,160 crores in active green lending portfolio

These actions underscore Axis Bank’s dual commitment—to financing the green economy and regenerating ecosystems for future generations.

Health, Sports, and Humanitarian Outreach

In FY 2025, Axis Bank expanded its CSR footprint to new thematic areas, notably healthcare and sports, ensuring holistic development across sectors.

Healthcare:

Axis Bank collaborated with the National Cancer Grid (NCG) under Tata Memorial Centre, the Indian Cancer Society, and St. Jude India Childcare Centres to:

  • Strengthen oncology infrastructure,
  • Improve cancer screening accessibility,
  • Digitize patient care for low-income families.

Sports:

Recognizing sports as a catalyst for empowerment and inclusion, Axis Bank began supporting initiatives from grassroots training to Olympic and Paralympic-level programs. The Bank’s sports CSR model emphasizes access, equity, and excellence, particularly among marginalized youth.

Additionally, humanitarian relief was extended to flood-affected states including Assam, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Manipur, reinforcing the Bank’s readiness to support communities during crises.

Governance, Transparency, and Long-Term Impact

Axis Bank’s CSR operations are guided by a strong governance framework, overseen by a dedicated CSR Committee at the Board level. All initiatives are aligned with the Companies Act, 2013, CSR Rules, 2021, and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for Goals).

With Rs 139.65 crores provisioned for ongoing projects, the Bank ensures long-term continuity of impact rather than one-time interventions. Regular impact assessments and third-party evaluations further reinforce transparency and accountability.
