LEH (India CSR): State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest public sector bank, has extended support to the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh by donating a school bus under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The contribution is aimed at facilitating safe and convenient transport for students of the Institute.
The bus was formally handed over to Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director, NISR by Krishan Sharma, Chief General Manager, Chandigarh Circle, SBI at a ceremony in Leh. The event was attended by Jayant Mani, Deputy General Manager, Business & Operations, J&K Zone, Anil Tondon, Chief Manager, SBI Leh Branch, senior officials of SBI, along with faculty, staff, and students of NISR.
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Padma Gurmet thanked SBI for the gesture and highlighted the importance of the vehicle for student mobility in the difficult terrain of Ladakh. He also shared a brief overview of NISR’s ongoing activities, noting its significant role in preserving and promoting the traditional Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine for public welfare.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Krishan Sharma reiterated SBI’s commitment to community welfare through CSR initiatives across the country. “SBI continues to support institutions working for education, healthcare, and regional development. This initiative is part of our sustained efforts to contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
The donation underscores SBI’s broader vision of socio-economic development in Ladakh. By extending support to NISR, the bank not only aids education but also strengthens cultural and healthcare institutions that are vital to the region’s heritage and growth.
