NEW DELHI (India CSR): AT Capital Foundation Limited, the charitable arm of the AT Capital Group, has entered into a 5-year partnership with The Ocean Cleanup to address plastic pollution in Thane Creek, Mumbai.
Major Financial Commitment
Mumbai, India June 30 – AT Capital Foundation Limited (ATCF), the social impact arm of the AT Capital Group, is proud to announce a 5-year partnership with The Ocean Cleanup. As part of this landmark collaboration, ATCF will inject €1,500,000 into a comprehensive cleanup project at one of the tributaries of Thane Creek, Mumbai. This critical effort aims to combat plastic pollution and restore one of Asia’s largest creeks and a Key Biodiversity Area. The project is expected to intercept approximately 385 tonnes of waste per year.
Ocean Cleanup Mission
The Ocean Cleanup is an international, mission-driven, non-profit that develops and scales technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.
Advanced Cleanup Technology
The project will deploy a combination of The Ocean Cleanup Interceptor™ solutions with a walkable log-boom for plastic interception and additional Interceptor Guard booms for improved waste retainment. Extraction will employ a Direct-to-Shore conveyor system. All collected waste will be responsibly managed in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
Vital Marine Sanctuary
Thane Creek is also home to Maharashtra’s second-largest marine sanctuary. It plays a crucial role in supporting diverse wildlife, including thriving mangrove ecosystems and numerous waterbird species. The Thane Creek Cleanup Project aims to restore this vital natural habitat and safeguard its ecological integrity for future generations.
Commitment to Conservation

Together with The Ocean Cleanup, founded by Boyan Slat in 2013, we aim to make a measurable difference in reducing plastic pollution at its source.”
Global Cleanup Initiative
The deployment forms part of The Ocean Cleanup’s 30 Cities Program which aims to eliminate up to one third of all plastic flowing from the world’s rivers into the ocean before the end of the decade. In Mumbai, mapping of all waterways has been completed and preparations for the first deployments are underway.

Supporting Local Communities
Beyond the removal of plastic, this initiative also seeks to support local communities, particularly the indigenous Koli fishermen, through environmental education, livelihood restoration, and capacity-building programmes.
Project Management Oversight
AT Capital’s portfolio company, Experion Developers, will oversee its own programme management of the cleanup project.
