NEW DELHI (India CSR): Leading tyre maker, Apollo Tyres today inaugurated its Mobile Medical Unit, christened as ‘Apollo Tyres Healthcare Express’ for the health check of the truckers and the allied population. This unit was flagged off today by C Thomas Mathew, Unit Head, Chennai Plant, Apollo Tyres Ltd.
Healthcare Services Offered
This Mobile Medical Unit will provide vital healthcare services to the trucking community while raising awareness about critical health issues such as HIV/AIDS, prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Vision Care, Tuberculosis, and non-communicable diseases including Diabetes and Hypertension.
Expert Team Deployment
Apollo Tyres’ Healthcare Express will be operated by a team comprising a Medical Officer (MBBS), a Pharmacist, an Optometrist, Outreach Workers and a Project Coordinator. It will offer an extensive range of services, including preventive and awareness programmes, general medical treatment and specific health screenings.
Coverage Area Details
The Mobile Medical Unit will serve significant transport hubs within a 50-km radius, encompassing Madhavaram, Manjambakkam and Poonamallee, catering to over 10,000 trucking population.
Affordable Service Access
A nominal consultation fee of Rs 10 per visit will grant drivers and associated trucking community access to these essential services provided by the Healthcare Express.
Programme Impact History
Since the inception of its’ healthcare programme for the trucking community in 2000, Apollo Tyres Foundation has reached over 12 million beneficiaries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisation extended its support, reaching over a million people for awareness generation. It also facilitated COVID-19 testing for more than 10,000 individuals and vaccination for over 150,000 in collaboration with local authorities.
