Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunoheamatology (ISBTI), Haryana Chapter and Seth Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Institute of Engineering & Technology (JMIT) jointly organized Blood Donation Motivators conference at Yamuna Nagar, Haryana.

CHANDIGARH: Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunoheamatology (ISBTI), Haryana chapter in association with Seth Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Institute of Engineering & Technology (JMIT) organized daylong conference of Blood Donation Motivators at its Radaur, Yamuna Nagar campus here on March 9, 2013.

ISBTI National President Dr Yudhbir Singh addressing the conference.More than 100 star donors, motivators and camp organizers from 5 districts of Haryana viz Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal & Yamuna Nagar participated and shared their life changing experiences and best practices on voluntary blood donation. Dr. Yudhbir Singh (IAS), National President, ISBTI was the Chief Guest and Dr. T.R. Raina, former Professor and Head, Blood at Transfusion Medicine Govt. Medical College Jammu was special guest of the conference. Red Cross Society, Yamuna Nagar also actively participated in the conference.

The aim of this conference was to provide a common platform to all the individuals & organizations dedicated to the cause of voluntary blood donation to share life changing experiences and success stories in the field of Blood Donation. The conference also aimed to find reasons of less number of blood donations, behaviour pattern of people about blood donation across the country and ways to increase and motivate people for this noble work with a motto “Blood – Without Delay”.

Dr. Yudhbir Singh (IAS), National President, ISBTI in his encouraging address emphasized on the timely provision of quality blood by the voluntary blood donation. He said that blood donors are true heroes and they are very special persons. We need to motivate and encourage our youth to come forward for the cause of voluntary blood donation. Donating blood is a noble work and it gives opportunity to the youth to directly connect with social issue of the area where they live. Timely provisions of quality blood also gives life to many and make them happy. There are many ways to be a better human and to serve the mankind. Blood donation is said to be one amongst the best services that a man can do. Motivators are the ray of hope to bring people out for this noble cause of Blood Donation.

Dr Yudbhir Singh said that ISBTI has a mission to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation by recruiting blood donors from unexplored areas through voluntary blood donation awareness & motivational programmes in various parts of the country.

Dr TR Raina_ISBTIHe further said that we have taken many steps and launched various programmes towards spreading awareness regarding importance of safe blood for transfusion. 100% voluntary blood donation programme has been successfully launched in the state of Haryana with the vision that safe blood should be waiting for the patient and not the patient waiting for the safe blood.

Speaking on the occasion Special guest to the conference Dr. T.R. Raina, former Professor and Head, Blood at Transfusion Medicine Govt. Medical College Jammu and Secretary General ISBTI National Governing Body enlightened the audience and highlighted various issues in this context which included social aspects of philosophy and science of blood donation, importance of blood donation for healthy life. Dr.Raina said that donating blood enhances social harmony and increases happiness of the donor. He also threw light on how ISBTI is playing crucial role revolutionizing the voluntary blood donation in various part of country.

Dr. Raina further added that healthy and happy man or women having an Hb level of 12.5 (minimum) and aged between 18 and 65 years can donate blood once in three months. Human body contains more than 10 units of blood and roughly 1 unit is given during the donation. The recovery happens within week days and the maximum is 56 days. In India, the minimum age to donate blood is 18 years.

India which is the second largest populated country in the world, needs about 4 Crore units of safe blood every year but unfortunately only a meagre 40 Lakh units of blood are available here. The country with a rich tradition of “Donating Something from Ones Birth to Death” also contributes to the field of “Blood Donation”. People across the country are trying to change the direction of wind by voluntarily donating blood as well as motivating others to do the same.

ISBTI – Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI) is a Non Profit Voluntary Organization operating at National Level. Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 by the Registrar of the Societies, Chandigarh on December 28, 1973, it functions as a national body for blood transfusion chapter for scientific advancement and research including up gradation & maintenance of safe blood transfusion services in the country. Keeping in view the Aims of National Blood Policy of Govt. of India, ISBTI carries out activities as stipulated in the National Guidelines for voluntary blood donation published by National Aids Control Organization (NACO). ISBTI is one of the very few NGOs empanelled with ‘TISS National CSR Hub’ to carry out projects of CPSEs under their CSR policies throughout the Country.
