BENGALURU (India CSR) In a pioneering step toward women’s empowerment and sustainable urban mobility, United Way Bengaluru, in partnership with GE Aerospace India (GE India Industrial Pvt Ltd – GEIIPL), has launched an innovative program to support marginalized women. The initiative distributed six e-autos, each equipped with a smartphone, to women from vulnerable communities, providing them with a pathway to financial independence and eco-friendly livelihoods.

Transforming Lives Through E-Autos

The program aims to create sustainable livelihoods for distressed women, enabling them to operate e-autos in collaboration with cab aggregators. Supported by Parihar, an initiative of the Bengaluru City Commissioner’s Office, the project combines skill development, technology integration, and environmental sustainability. Each e-auto is equipped with a smartphone to facilitate seamless ride management through aggregator platforms, ensuring ease of use and efficient operations.

The eco-friendly e-autos contribute to reducing air pollution, cutting carbon emissions, and lowering noise pollution in Bengaluru’s busy urban areas, making the initiative a win-win for social and environmental progress.

Launch Event Highlights

The initiative was formally announced at an event held at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru. Key attendees included:

  • B. Dayananda, IPS, Police Commissioner of Bengaluru
  • Sanjeev Jha, India Volunteering Leader, GE Aerospace
  • Rajesh Krishnan, CEO of United Way Bengaluru

The event underscored the importance of partnerships between public and private organizations to create meaningful societal change.

Voices of Impact

Rajesh Krishnan, CEO of United Way Bengaluru, emphasized the transformative potential of the program:

“Our long-standing collaboration with GE has been instrumental, and this is yet another program we are privileged to partner on. The e-auto initiative empowers women to take charge of their lives, enabling them to earn a livelihood with dignity.”

Sanjeev Jha, India Volunteering Leader, GE Aerospace, highlighted the company’s commitment to community welfare:

“At GE Aerospace, we are dedicated to initiatives that bring meaningful change to society. This partnership with the Bengaluru City Commissioner’s Office and United Way Bengaluru is a significant step toward creating livelihood opportunities for women, ensuring dignity and respect.”

Shri B. Dayananda, IPS, Police Commissioner, applauded the collaboration:

“This initiative exemplifies the strength of Public-Private Partnerships in driving social and environmental progress. By empowering marginalized women and promoting eco-friendly mobility, we are building a better Bengaluru for the future.”

A Step Towards Sustainability and Inclusion

The e-auto program not only fosters economic independence for women but also addresses pressing urban challenges. By integrating environmentally friendly transportation options, the initiative aligns with global sustainability goals while addressing local issues of air quality and congestion.

The Road Ahead

This impactful collaboration highlights the power of collective efforts to address social and environmental challenges. Through training, technology integration, and community engagement, United Way Bengaluru and GE Aerospace are setting an example of how corporate social responsibility can transform lives and drive sustainable urban development.

With such initiatives, Bengaluru is paving the way for an inclusive and greener future, showcasing how empowering communities can also contribute to a cleaner environment.
