BILASPUR, Chhattisgarh (India CSR): In an ongoing effort to enhance educational facilities in less privileged regions, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a prominent entity in India’s coal industry, has continued its initiative to install smart classes in government schools. This initiative, targeting schools in Korba and Raigarh in Chhattisgarh, and Umaria in Madhya Pradesh during the fiscal year 2023-24, forms a crucial part of SECL’s expansive community development projects under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mandate.

SECL, with its headquarters in Bilaspur, has actively pursued the transformation of traditional classrooms into technologically advanced learning environments. The project’s core aim is to infuse digital learning solutions in areas traditionally bereft of such advancements, thereby fostering an interactive and effective learning atmosphere conducive to both teaching and learning.

The smart classroom initiative has made significant strides in the FY 2023-24, benefitting approximately 782 students from various government schools. The program’s impact is palpable with a notable reduction in school dropout rates and a substantial improvement in student performance. SECL operates mines in the isolated terrains of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, regions often secluded from the socio-economic developments of urban centers. The initiative primarily supports land oustees, project-affected persons (PAPs), and local communities within a 25 km radius of SECL operations. This strategic focus aims not only at enhancing educational outcomes but also at uplifting overall community well-being through access to improved educational facilities.
