Kolkata’s Durga Puja 2023: A Tapestry of Tradition, Art, and Devotion

Durga Puja is the most awaited festival in Kolkata, the city of joy. It is a celebration of the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura and the arrival of the divine mother to her earthly abode. The festival is marked by grand processions, cultural events, and the installation of pandals with idols of Goddess Durga and her four children: Ganesha, Kartikeya, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. Each pandal is unique and showcases the creativity and craftsmanship of the artists and organizers.

1. Suruchi Sangha

Suruchi Sangha is one of the most popular Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata and is famous for its creative themes. This is a 50 year old pandal and the theme is centred on a different state of India every year. The pandal showcases the culture, art, and cuisine of the chosen state and also promotes national integration. The pandal has won many awards for its decoration and theme, including the best decorated pandal in 2003 and 2009 for its exquisite artwork.

2. Mohammad Ali Park

Mohammad Ali Park is one of the most prestigious Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata. The pandal is decorated every year with an amazing design and architecture. The pandal is known for its dazzling and colourful combination that decorates the interior of the pandal. The pandal has won many awards in various categories. The pandal also attracts a huge crowd of visitors who come to admire the beauty and grandeur of the pandal.

3. Santosh Mitra Square

Santosh Mitra Square is one of the oldest and most popular Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata. The pandal has been organised for 80 years and has always been innovative and spectacular. The Durga puja here rose to fame in 2017 because of the outstanding artwork and portrayed Goddess Durga sitting in a Buckingham Palace setting. In 2023, Santosh Mitra Square’s theme will be based on the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. 4. Ekdalia Evergreen Club

Ekdalia Evergreen Club is one of the top Durga pujas in the South Kolkata area. The pandal was established in the year 1943 and this year they are celebrating the 79th year of their Durga puja. The pandal is known for its traditional and elegant style that reflects the essence of Bengal. The pandal also features a huge chandelier that adds to the charm and grace of the pandal.

5. Tridhara Sammilani

Tridhara Sammilani is another famous Durga Puja pandal in South Kolkata. The pandal was founded in 1947 and has been organising Durga puja ever since. The pandal is renowned for its artistic themes that are inspired by various aspects of life, culture, and nature. The pandal also hosts various cultural programs and competitions during the festival. 6. Bagbazar

Bagbazar is one of the oldest Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata. It was started in 1919 by some eminent personalities of Bengal, including Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
