NEW DELHI (India CSR): Intro: HCL Foundation, the social responsibility wing of global tech leader HCLTech, has announced a strategic partnership with the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI). The alliance is designed to train over 5,000 women, youths, and artisans from marginalized communities for sustainable income-generating opportunities. A joint livelihood-cum-entrepreneurship development center in Noida will be set up as part of this endeavor.
HCL Foundation’s Commitment to Marginalized Communities
Dr. Nidhi Pundhir, Vice President, Global CSR, HCL Foundation, stated that their initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for marginalized groups through sustainable interventions. The foundation is joining forces with one of India’s foremost cooperative institutions, NCUI, to empower women, youths, and artisans across the nation.
Three-Year Collaboration Plan
Over the next three years, NCUI and HCL Foundation will build a training infrastructure, provide market platforms, and offer branding support to self-help groups (SHGs) and cooperatives across India. This move is expected to boost employability in the private sector and other organizations.
NCUI’s Role and Aspirations
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, NCUI, views the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with HCL Foundation as a significant stride in strengthening the capabilities of SHGs and cooperatives. With HCL Foundation, NCUI aspires to promote vocational training and sustainable livelihood models, facilitating grassroots organizations in generating economic growth and social progress.
Features of the Livelihood and Entrepreneurship Development Center
The newly planned livelihood-cum-entrepreneurship development center will provide training in basic financial and digital concepts, and also conduct regular health check-ups for participants. Both HCL Foundation and NCUI aim to support over 200 SHGs, benefiting more than 3,000 members and 50 multi-purpose cooperatives.
Alignment with HCL’s Urban CSR Program
This partnership with NCUI is in line with HCL Uday, the urban CSR program of HCL Foundation, committed to the equitable and sustainable development of impoverished communities. To date, HCL Uday has positively affected the lives of 890,000 people across 11 locations.
