Reliance Foundation: Brief Introduction
Reliance Foundation is a philanthropic initiative of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Reliance Foundation is founded by Smt. Nita M. Ambani in 2010. It aims to catalyze sustainable development in India by addressing various social, economic and environmental challenges. Reliance Foundation works in various domains such as rural transformation, health, education, sports for development, women empowerment, disaster management, arts, culture and heritage and urban renewal.
Reliance Foundation has touched the lives of over 45 million people across India through its various initiatives and interventions.
Some of its flagship programmes are:
Reliance Foundation Bharat India Jodo (BIJ): A rural transformation programme that works with over 15,000 villages across 24 states to improve their livelihoods, infrastructure, governance and social capital.
Reliance Foundation COVID-19 Response: A comprehensive and multi-pronged response to the pandemic that includes providing medical equipment and supplies, setting up COVID care facilities, supporting vaccination drives, creating awareness and disseminating information, providing relief and livelihood support to the affected communities and frontline workers.
Reliance Foundation Education and Sports for All (RF ESA): A sports for development programme that aims to foster a culture of sports among children and youth of India through various platforms such as Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS), Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA, Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC), etc.
Reliance Foundation Drishti: A vision welfare programme that provides free eye care services to the underprivileged sections of society. It also publishes India’s first Braille newspaper in Hindi and English for the visually impaired.
Reliance Foundation Scholarships: A merit-cum-means based scholarship programme that supports talented students from economically weaker backgrounds to pursue higher education in various fields such as engineering, management, law, arts, etc.
