UDAIPUR: 9,000 rural underprivileged children of Rajasthan and Odisha will join formal school now as their tenure in Vedanta Anganwadi Centre is getting over in July 2012.
The child care projects started in close association with the state governments of Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Orissa in the year 2008 has the prime objective to provide nutrition, health and education to the underprivileged children who are primarily in the age group of 3 to 6 years.
Vedanta as part of the project is supplementing morning breakfast, with poha and groundnut, providing clean drinking water, new utensils, colorful books, toys and other necessary items, much to the needs of these children.
The success of the Vedanta Anganwadi Centers has been evident through improvement in attendance & retention of children and a significant progress in their health & hygiene which is apparent in health check-ups & weight measurement which is carried out periodically. The teaching through play-way method has been another significant factor responsible for increase in attendance.
Vedanta is facilitating 100% immunization of the children who are in the age group of 0-5 years and living in the villages where these Vedanta Anganwadi centres are present.
India houses largest number of children in this world. To ensure that these children become responsible citizens of India tomorrow, the Government, Corporates, NGOs and common citizens need to come together and join hands to implement such projects successfully.
Visit to the Anganwadi and you can see as many smiling faces wishing you ‘Good Morning’ and singing their morning prayers…
These 9000 children have been groomed for about 3 years and they have learned good habits, etiquettes, discipline, importance of health & hygiene and basic education.
It is a feeling of proud that these children will now enter into formal schools and make their future bright.
