JAMSHEDPUR: A major vehicle accident had occured at Patamda on February 1, 2012. The patients were soon admitted at MGM hospital. District Administration had sought help from Tata Steel and Tata Main Hospital for the treatment of nineteen patients who were seriously injured. Staff at Tata Main Hospital took up firm steps and treated these patients diligently.
All the patients except Smt Sushila Devi had recovered and left for their homes after treatment. Sushila, who is approximately 25 years of age, had nowhere to go. The patient had to be looked after by the hospital since the last five months as a humanitarian consideration to the accident victim in distress. Tata Steel had borne the entire cost of treatment of the nineteen injured, the amount for which sums up to nearly rupees four lakhs.
Today the district administration led by Subodh Kumar, SDO, Dhalbhum, with the concerted efforts of Missionaries of Charity and various agencies has found a home for Sushila at Nirmal Hridayalaya. The patient was received by Sister Ann Catherine, Superior Missionaries of charity, in the presence of Dr T P Madhusudanan, General Manager, Medical Services, Tata Steel, Lt General G Ramdas, Chief TMH, Dr Neelanjan Roy, Resident Medical Officer, TMH, Ms Mary Kutty Babu, Nursing Superintendent, TMH, Mr Ashok Ghosh, Corporate Affairs and other officials of Tata Steel.
Tata Steel and Tata Main Hospital always work in alliance with the District Administration to provide treatment to the accident victims whenever required. The case of Smt Sushila Devi is an example of one such symbiotic and remarkable effort to help the needy in times of distress to uphold the humanitarian spirit. This incident once again reiterates the commitment of TMH in particular and Tata Steel at large to serve the society.
