BENGALURU: Science Gallery Bengaluru (SGB) on Monday said it received a corporate social responsibility grant of Rs 5 crore from TTK Prestige Limited, which will go into the development of SGB’s Public Lab Complex that aims to foster public engagement and learning through research and experimentation.
Elaborating on the food lab coming up at the Public Lab Complex on Ballari Road, SGB said: “Sensation and science come together at the food lab, which will be an experimental space where food researchers will be able to pursue everything from new techniques in gastronomy, food technology and nutrition to interactions between heat, energy, and molecules that create flavours.”
Stating that gastronomy will be explored to the molecular detail and culinary creativity will be unleashed at the lab, SGB added that this will be a place to study sustainable food systems and to create open-source technologies for experimentation and learning. The Public Lab Complex, as reported earlier by TOI, is a set of experimental spaces for open-ended research within the SGB complex.
“At the outset, the Public Lab Complex will contain the natural sciencses lab, food lab, materials lab, new media lab, black box theatre, humanities lab, numbers lab, and theory lab. The long-term goal is to facilitate research ideas that transcend the boundaries of disciplines, academia and create new knowledge responsive and accessible to the public at large,” SGB added.
SGB is a not-for-profit public institution for research-based engagement targeted at young adults. The organisation works at the interface between the human, natural and social sciences, engineering, and the arts.
